Hammock underblanket or mat help needed

My Jungle Hammock arrived this morning. I was told that Tom Claytors' customer service was good, but I only ordered last Sunday! Amazing service. Now, to the point. I want a mat really rather than the underblanket idea, as the hammock is double layered, and can be used as a bivvy if...

    Tarp and Hammock tutorial

Hi folks, Quite a while ago I did a tutorial on how to set up and take down a tarp and hammock, originally at the request of Ronnie Sunshines. The sequence ended up being rather more in depth than they anticipated. In a couple of recent threads I used some of the images from the sequence to...

    DD Hammocks Krab Mod

Have recently bought a DD Travel Hammock and was about to carry out the Krab mod, detailed in Chainsaws excellent Blog of March 2008. I chickened out on two counts. Somewhere I’ve read that 30cm, is the recommended length for the loops through the end channels of the hammock. Utilizing...

    Hammocks

I'm interested in trying hammock camping. I already own a DD Travel Hammock with mossie net and an ex-military basha. Should I go the underblanket and quilt route or use an existing sleeping bag? I have an ex-military bag which is rated below 0 degree C. I have had a look at...

    Hammock advice

I've got a DD travel. The 'tapes' are attached to the hammock. Does that mean water ingress or will a 'drip string' solve that? Or should i cut off the tape and have a 'krab' link between the hammock and tapes that go around the tree? Tom.

    Dumb hammock underblanket question

Q: Why do you need an underblanket when in a hammock? A: Because you'll get cold if you don't have one... Seriously though, the conductivity of air is tiny compared to the the ground. Is it convection (wind) that chills the bottom of the hammock?

Repairing or replacing Hennessey Hammock ropes / cords

I have known two people who for one reason or another have had the smaller diameter Dyneema suspension cords on the light weight Hennessey hammock wear through. I myself have had two ridge lines snap when someone else was putting up my hammock (don't ask  :lmao: ) Anyway, having...

    DD Scout Hammock

Hi, Has anyone any experience with the DD scout hammock ? I'm really keen to try out a hammock but a little reluctant to shell out £40 for something that I might not like, so the scout version looks ok and for £14 not a bad price. I'm 5' 10" and 13 stone will it be too small / cramped...
