Very sad I spent half my teens freezing my ******** off in field trying to focus a cheap £25 reflector on the Andromeda Galaxy thanks to that guy, when I should have been shoplifting vodka and hanging around on street corners with 3 guys in hoodies.

I trust he has a star named after him somewhere.
He will be very sadly missed.
There seems to be a shortage of genuine characters these days, they seem to have largely been replaced by ten minute celebrities of no real talent.

Will miss him very much, was a highlight of the month on TV since he began. Did you see my post on this with Brian May's lovely tribute?
Well spotted Elen, a lovely tribute indeed. Perhaps it's too early to talk of such things, but to me Brian May would be the natural choice to take over the show. I don't use the word "replacement" because Sir Patrick was irreplaceable IMHO, but if the show must go on (see what I did there?) then a new presenter must be found. Brian has the qualifications to do the job and an easy manner to boot, I think he'd do a sterling job of it.
