What do you guys eat for brekky and packed lunch?

Hi All

I'm desperately trying to find something healthy to eat for breakfast and a packed lunch.

What do you eat? What staves off hunger but isn't going to bloat?

With an ever increasing workload I'm finding it harder and harder to get out and exercise, I hate to say it there's even a softness appearing around the middle that was never there before... action is needed!!!!!

Do you have any special recipies (not literally!) that will make breakfast ineresting and lunch a pleasure again?

I like eggs, poached on toast is nice for breakfast. They say that liquids are best for helping with hunger, so a soup for lunch in a flask? I sometimes get the packets of rice from the supermarket and put half of one in a soup with some veg and any meat we've got about, nice warm liquidly soup. At the moment i'm liking the Ainsly Harriet Tai instant packets... Snack on fruit, nuts or meat, drink loads of water

I have Tesco value muesli with hot water on for brekkie about a coffee mug full, and let it soak, it becomes quite sweet, it has nuts and raisins, and a black strong coffee keeps me going till lunch, where I normally have meat of some kind with salad and fruit, then any thing for tea from take away to fresh fish, this works for me being a home dad with two year old twins, and running between four and six miles a night with Sunday off, 6' and 85kg. all quite easily continued while out and about too.

Porridge for breakfast...filling and slow release so should keep you going til lunch

Lunch...soup, thick and hearty as it's slow to digest and keeps you "full" for longer

Breakfast I usually have a small bowl of granola with low fat yoghurt (and strawbs if in season), or at the moment I have a wholewheat pita bread with a couple of tablespoons of low fat homous (yeah I know, a bit odd). Another one I like is an avocado with lemon juice.

Lunch at the moment is a homemade soup or a salad - yesterday's was with some tuna and sweetcorn mayonnaise, followed by an Activia

Snacking in between is on apples, bananas, japanese rice crackers or similar :)

Sadly not well organise in early morning so have a couple slices of toast with peanut butter and Coffee then sadwhiches/Crisps/bicky for lunch.

It’s no wonder I’m getting tubby.

Porridge or cornflakes for breakfast. These days I come home for a sandwich or toast for lunch but for years I ate a tin of DeMonte Fruit cocktail in juice every day, hard to get the juice ones these days, most shops seem to mainly stock the minging syrup ones. They are great in the summer if you keep them in the fridge and then take them to work in a insulated box. All you need to remember is your racing spoon and thats lunch plus some fluids and a smug feeling that you've had some of your 'five a day', by doing this, you don't feel so bad about opening a bottle of wine every night. See, I'm even thinking about your mental wellbeing as well as your spare tyre! Glyn.

There are a few simple rules I follow to try and keep my diet good. Keep it as natural as possible, so if it grows its good, as long as you don't add too much crap to it. Eat little and often, that way your body processes your intake better. No carb dense food after 6pm. Excersice as much as possible, even if its just a walk to the shops rather than taking the motor. Wholegrain is best!

Bake yourself some oatcakes for the week...

170g of oats
170g of plain flour
85g of milk
85 g butter
Level teaspoon of salt
Level teaspoon of baking powder

Mix the flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl, then gradually add the oatmeal and mix.
Add the butter rub into the mixture with your fingers.
Pour in the milk and mix until you have a stiff but workable dough (you may very gradually add more milk if the mix is too dry).
Press oatcake sized pieces onto a baking tray.
Bake at a high heat for 15/20 minutes.

Store in an airtight container.

Bannock or instant porridge (Lyons Golden Syrup is a fave at the moment)

Sandwich or salad

Sandwich/pasty/pasta/rice or soup, something stodgy like flapjack or choccy bar for pudding

Packet of Royal Edinburgh shortbread for 11 o'clock.
12" beef & horseradish baguette, cheese & onion walkers squares and mars bar & fruit salad for lunch and a pint of ale down the pub.
Mainly meat and rice or noodles for tea.
Cider & another one.

6'1" racing snake. Dunno where it all goes.

Loving the evening routine, my tolerance to the booze has improved too much now and I fear it's time for a short break... I miss you already cider!

Thanks All so far! Some inspiration... some obviously more health conscious than others!!! The extensive fry ups are very appealing but for now I might be better moving towards the porridge camp.

Has anyone tried the cold oat, fruit juice and yogurt breakfast idea? left over night in the fridge to soak?

And what do you snack on between fry ups?

I used to be a lot fitter pre the birth of my daughter but the last year has been so busy and I really need to find the time to get fitter again. I think the right diet will help me in to the right frame of mind again, the right balance of carbs to protein etc, but when out and about there does need to be a certain degree of convenience.

Porridge for breakfast (i have tried other cereals but this is the only breakfast that leaves me sated). Sandwich and an apple for lunch.

Winter weekdays - porridge
Summer weekdays - cinnamon/raisin bagels dunked in black coffee.
Thurdays (wifes day off!)- poached egg on toast
Weekends - poached (or scrambled) egg on toast, bacon, toms and mushrooms, home made jams and toast

Bushy trips - mix and match of - bacon grill, rye bread, bannock, pancakes, bacon, eggs (omlette with wild garlic and nettles mmmmmm), black pudding, rat pack breakfast pouch, biscuits brown, oatcakes, cold pizza.

Luches - salad sarnies on wholegrain bread with some kind of meat - ham, salami, cold choock, beef - plus an apple and some kind of sweet bit - biscuit, Mars bar etc etc etc

Mind you I am a fat boy...

Where you get the bacon grill from John. I can never find the decent stuff like they used to have in the old style ration packs.


I have the problem that my wife can eat as much junk and fried food as she like but stays a size 10. I eat the same stuff and become rounder each day.
