I think a few of them thought it would be like I'm a Celebrity.
Lack of fire surprised me, especially as at least one has the BG survival kit, which has matches and a fire steel in it. The BG knives have fire steels too.
Also having found one source of dirty water they stopped looking.

Plenty of "Wooo we're on holiday!!! This pillow isn't very comfy" but precious little "We could die of thirst in 48 to 72 hours but not starve to death for three weeks" kind of thinking...

3 of thirteen got a fire going and the rest were all lazy or was that just the way it was edited for sensationalism?

I would question how a metal tin washed up in such good condition but plastic bottles I can believe.

Also, glasses have concave lenses and thus are no good for starting fires.

The presenting annoyed me more than what the blokes got up to. I am aware of the blooming obvious after its first mentioned, and I don't require a recap after every ad break.

As to what they got up to, they were only on day 2. Yes the majority thought they were on holiday, but I bet it sunk in totally on day 3.

The successful tinder bundle was made of coconut fibre, the coconuts could be seen on the beach over the shoulders of the guys doing the firebow, as well as a drift net floating in the water while they were swimming.. Bad editing or another bear grylls make believe fantasy???

Just my two cents worth but I reckon that as they had all had only 24 hours of survival training each, it looked like those 3 had had bow drill instruction as only 1 was looking for the correct materials etc, and it took all three to use the set where I have never been shown only the one man way ( I have read of it being taught on family courses or to juniors as it takes a lot of effort on your own).
I reckon that you will see certain people have certain skills. Mental attitude may be the neurologist's specialism and there was a St. Johns ambulance guy to treat the wound for example.
Only certain people made the pots for boiling and collecting water.
I was wondering why they were drinking out of old found plastic bottles when they must already have something to drink out of when they got there?
I reckon I would have collected dirty water in one of their original containers and kept one for dumping boiled water in to instead of carting loads of pop bottles back and forth?
As I said just my two cents worth

didn't see it but if that is the case there might even have been some fish stuck in the drift net -- i think it is totally impossible to re-create the feelings and emotions of a real-life surival scenario for a tv programme, sub-consciously they all know its not for real and at worst they will only suffer some discomfort and will be pulled out before any 'real' danger to life (like when it was said they would be pulled out when water got low), only when real-life genuine desperation sets in does reality begin to take hold, and that sort of desperation is ugly and not entertaining at all, i don't think anyone really knows how they will behave and i hope not many have to find out.

Thought I saw a net in the water!
They may have put that there so they had fish to eat but they have to catch it themselves?!?!

They were playing with a net in the background - or possibly unwinding cordage from one that had washed up - don't know why they didn't get a few bow sets on the go

Not impressed with people swimming when they should be locating water sources.

So far there are a couple which are showing a bit of gumption. The main one at least with fire appears to be the young lad that works on his families farm. I would imagine that they are all trained to do the bowdrill side of life, not doing so would be stupid and there were more than three of them giving it a go, it was just a case that it was mainly those three. I would however defer to the people that proved better at fire by friction. If this group of people are better / more efficient at it then why not let them get on with it?

In some ways the others did what was right, by doing nothing they were conserving calories and water.

However at this stage they should be looking at some form of concurrent activity whilst they have strength and calorific reserves. They had come across a game trail, why weren't they thinking of trapping it? Why didn't they try to source a secondary water source? Collection of materials to maintain the fire. Foraging for useful implements, they did to a degree, but they could have done more.

The first three days you should be getting the basics sorted and then getting into some form of routine, this does mean that someone will require to be in control and organise them. Under normal circumstances you'd expect the policeman to take control, firstly because of his age and secondly because he's an authority figure, but I'm sure I heard him say that he was missing his mum (91 years of age) and at the age of 70 he probably won't be dynamic enough to mobilise the others.

You have a neurologist, he's reasonably young, but in the end he's a doctor. He is used to making decisions that effect peoples lives and it is a position of trust and authority in normal life and people like the familiar. He can understand what will be happening to the guys both physiologically and to a level psychologically. I would think you'll probably start to see him coming more to the front.

Having said that you never know, but it's good to think these things through.
