Its funny how "survival" is no longer a dirty word
We did go through a "bushcraftier than thou" phase, when the most important thing was to ensure one indulged in an activity that was seen to have absolutely no future relevance. Even the hint that what we do may, at an inderminant future time, be needed, was enough to get you excommunicated from the "in crowd"
It is a much nicer place now that such silliness is no longer the "lingua franca"![]()
with-all due respect BR what are you on about?
I know how it has to be - its just all in my head!
Don't obsess about Bear Grylls products; they're all a bastardisation of ordinary production Gerber products with leary colours.
I dont realy distingish between fixed blades myself
my only thoughts on a survival kife aside from being and staying sharp for the tasks i'm likely going to need it for is that its easy to care for in the field (clean and sharpen), comfortable to use all day long and light to carry.
been playing with the condor range most recently and have settled on their kephart, for £40 from heinnies it wont break the bank either
did a little work on it to make it my own

Why do knife manufacturers and makers make kepharts that look like that? The kephart NEVER looked like that until it was worn down after a lifetime's use. It didnt have a spear point, it had a drop down edge with a belly.![]()
because they can![]()
WHy do manufacturers and makers insist on making that kephart as the one he promoted later in life was massively different in design so either the product of years of exp changed his mind an this design was no longer best in his mind ...or he got paid a wedge by a knife company to promote what they made![]()
