First off the Christmas production line is...my Dad's new dog walking stick.
The Hazel has been left with natural form, although stripped of bark and varnished.
The bottom has a nice brass ferrule
Handle is an antler kindly donated by paulnb57 on BCUK
mounted on a nickel silver collar (with initials inscribed) and a Buffulo horn/bone stack of spacers....all this is tied together by a nice piece of high tensile steel bar, and finished with a 3mm leather thong wrist strap.
oh and the obligatory work in progress shot.
being the first stick made it is not all perfect....i did not even attempt to straighten it...the stave is a little lightwieght (although plenty strong enough) so next time i'd use a much thicker stave and manufacture it in a different order to get a nicer finish to the handle components....still it's a big step up from the stick he uses now and hope he likes it.
Next are some gifts to be made for the family and friends from this beauty
