What fungi did you spot today?

Definitely nor mould, those crinkles are part of its structure. I couldn’t get under it, and don’t want to pick it.

Wrinkling/colouring can happen due to an hypomyces chrysospermus infection, but I suppose it could just be an old and pale penny bun. The white ring around the edge of the cap suggests that could be the case.

Proper answer though is “I am not sure”. Looks cool though!

Interesting find, I'll keep an eye out for it in the books.

It kind of looked fresh. Forecast is not great, but I’ll get back tomorrow and see if I can get the lens under it. I had to flatten the grass just to expose the stem, all I noticed was the top and thought it was a ball of wet paper.

A rare find in the uk and probably worth recording :)
I’m not sure how to go about that, or its rarity. Here are some more pics, it’s a bit bigger today and the brown flies were all over it presumably laying eggs and maybe helping with spreading spores.

You'll have a county recorder in Sussex but, I suggest, you start by contacting this group:

They'll be able to tell you if it's rare in your area and who to record it through. Alternatively, you can make a personal record using iRecord.
