A few strops to the leather, the Opinel was hair shaving sharp. A great classic utility tool around the house and in the garden.

A new BB cap, Rifle Green 5.11 and some gas canisters for an OEX Vulcan stove that I’d forgotten about. Thought id test it out, it’s a little powerhouse

I bought a couple of axes from Wood Tools last week, a carving axe and a woodland axe. Yes, a luxury, but I have been working hard of late. I also paid for the sheaths- not cheap but seem to be good quality. I don't go away on holidays, so this was my little summer treat.

The axes arrived Friday. But the sheaths- as I said, not cheap- are missing from the package. There's no note to indicate following later, and the dispatch note indicates them as being sent.

Unfortunately, it seems that if you have received an order from Wood Tools and they have messed up, they are not particularly inclined to get back to you and remedy it. No phone number, and they don't seem to respond to their FB page, web form or email. (They are clearly active on FB, posting about their wonderful weekend festival).

So it's with a heavy heart that I have to say "think twice" if you are considering buying from Wood Tools. If you do buy from them- use a credit card and understand that if they get the order wrong, it's not going to be easy to sort out.

Mini butane gas stove £16, foods up and fits inside a mug.

Boiled 1 mug of water tonight, will refill and try mug of water and noodles at weekend.

Runs off canned EN417 bayonet butane gas you get for bigger camping stoves.

Arrived today, a Dutch Army Self-Inflating kip mat.

I have a "vintage" Thermarest 3/4, but planning an adventure with my son and need a second. A full length one might be nice, as I am a not 21 anymore and sleeping on the deck isn't quite as easy as it was.

A Virtus waist belt for the 40ltr daypack I've also recently purchased. The daypack has a stupid great heavy 1kg H frame, just to transfer the weight to a hip belt using the adjustable "spine" they've sold the army on. I've taken it out, lighter and increases the storage volume quite a bit. The H frame has some ally bars that can be taken out and slid down the back of the padding to make it semi-framed if I want.
Alternatively I have the Virtus hip belt and have worked out how to attach it without the "spine" device.

All the Delemonte models was discontined Dec 2022. So nice cheap find.

No, strangely enough. While searching for an Evo 18 I did come across some strange specs in various adverts.
IE: Amazon . Red version (not currently available) states locking blade..
The Swiss Store, Red version, mentions serrated scissors !
The Swiss Tool Shop mentions serrated scissors and a locking screwdriver !
The yellow/black one that I have just purchased has a non locking blade and straight edge scissors and it is a genuine SAK.

Ah, they did make two versions, presuming security blade means locking.

• 2.4913. C8 - Yellow and black Evogrip scales
• 2.4913. SC8 - Yellow and black Evogrip scales and security blade

Ah! Well done, mystery solved. I obviously have the C8. I'm not at all well up on SAK's but I own a few and I like the combination of tools on the 18. The colour appealed just as a change from the usual red.

The trap has been out there for a week now. Around the tree is maize / corn bait. Smeared in places on the tree up from there is the GoodNature hazelnut paste; also on and above the trap itself. Bait topped up daily. Trailcam showing increase in Squirrel activity around the area from before baiting (unsurprisingly!). Also showing mice at night, enjoying the paste.

Counter reads 7 after a week with (sadly) 2 mice as bycatch and 2 squirrels, so only 4 confirmed casualties. I wonder if the "missing" 3 count is either a small creature (mouse perhaps) triggering the trap without being in the "danger zone", or that maybe Foxy got there in the morning before me to tidy up any cull. @Nice65 mentions in the "Air pistol for Squirrels?" thread that slugs were triggering his trap. Maybe this was it?

Am vaguely thinking of getting another trap for the other side of the woodland, albeit much older mature trees (as opposed to the young Silver Birch and Oak being decimated), as Squirrels are caught on cam there. I'll see how I get on over the next 3 / 4 weeks with this one before deciding.

Trap now been out for 5 weeks. Counter reading 14 today, with 6 confirmed squirrels (either as bodies or confirmed by Trailcam), and - sadly - 3 bycatch mice. That leaves 5 "trigger events" unaccounted for.

As well as baiting according to the instructions, I've been smearing some of the Hazelnut paste on the wall higher up the chamber just above the trigger, hopefully encouraging further and deeper exploration by the Squirrels.

I caught one Squirrel on Trailcam checking out the trap bait and then having a nibble at the bark on the tree as well! Little bu99er...

Checking and rebaiting every two days now. For the first 4 weeks I was doing it daily.
