Berghaus cyclops Crusader

Picked one of these up today for a tenner. I get the the feeling there’s a new one and an older type of these. This is definitely an older type and the chap I got it off said it has a lot of history this particular bag. Only has one rocket pouch but I see a few online. Has some nifty one hand release clips on it.
I like my equipment to have character and prefer older stuff. I did buy a shiny new nature hike tent used it once and sold it . Prefer an older bivi personally
Looking forward to loading this bag up and giving it a go

Believe me this older version., Was never bettered. Good strong quality no gimmicks bottom pocket in the main compartment. I was lucky enough to work across from the mt centre shop in Newcastle which was linked to berghaus and I Always lusted after one and did get one once I joined the army

I’d guess 90s. The ski attachment patches were more rounded on the 80s versions.

I love seeing well-used kit which looks like it still has several lifetimes of use left in it. Great looking bag.

From the look of the buckles, I’d say 80’s. I was lucky enough to trial them in the early 80’s for the military and at the end of the trial, burghaus gave them to us, result! I used it for the rest of my army career only recently gave it to a nephew for the cadets, still lots of life in it!

They do help a bit with stability and having the rucksack snug. Loosen off all the straps then tension upwards from the waist strap finishing with the shoulder straps to get a nice fit.

Ah I read some where even reversed they didn’t fit but your obviously do. Not to worry I have a pouch on the way now

No, I had the zips reversed on the pouches.

The load lifters are to pull the pack closer to your back, which helps bring it closer to your center of gravity.

Circa 1979 I do believe
