so, the allegeation is that big business is guilty of manipualting the public in order to boost profits. That can't be true, surely. A more moral and upright group of people than big business it's not possible to find...

I seem to remembera few years ago Nestle selling milk powder to 3rd world countries...then telling them the water was clean enough so the milk formula would be ok....causing thousands of children to die!
Big business companies are scum!

They also gave free samples of baby formula to young mums in Africa, when the mothers had stopped lactating and could no longer breastfeed as a result of swapping to formula Nestle continued the supply of formula but charged the going rate for it. The net result was 1000s of starving babies!

I'm unconvinced about the Swine Flu conspiracy though. In the absence of hype I still get letters from SEERAD advising me to get bird flu vaccinations (as a poutry keeper). I think uptake of vaccinations by the whole population are a good idea. Have you seen any kids crippled by polio recently?

I don't believe anything reported in the daily fail. they seem to go out of there way to make rediculous noise about ordinary things, if i wanted to foam at the mouth due to a news article i'll make sure its actual news and not some half heard gibberish twisted into something juicy.

You know i don't read any newspaper when it comes down to it, all full of scaremongering sensationalist tosh.

Usual drivel from the Daily Wail.

However, if the media employed journalists who were experts (ie had at least a Masters in their specialism) then perhaps we wouldn't have all these idiotic stories in the first place.

It is in the interestes of the media owners to hype these things, although the BBC's total inability to do anything but follow what the Murdoch media are leading with is inexcusable.

NO! Swine 'flu was the deliberate release of a relatively innocuous but new virus strain in a very populous city.

Why?

to allow the authorities a dry run to see how they will cope with a pandemic outbreak of a real killer virus.

Don't forget, the black death, which was not a straightforward outbreak of bubonic plague, it travelled too quickly, and was probably a combination of outbreaks including an influenza virus, wiped out half the population of europe.

Bird 'flu is still a real threat should it mutate.

Bubonic plague mortality rate (without treatment) about 30-75%
pneumonic plague, mortality rate (without treatment) close to 100%

Bird 'flu Mortality rate close to 60% but it hasn't yet mutated.

The real threat to human civilization is disease, particularly viruses.

Removing tongue from cheek.

I'll get my coat.

I agree - gave up papers many years ago.

But............they cannot be totally ignored.

With the media control over government and their ability to dictate policy and public opinion it's frightening the power they wield.

Never a truer word said, look at the knife amnesties for just one example, the news latches on to knife wielding gangs and stabbings (which statistically had not risen or changed in recent years) and bang we're suddenly anti-knife and we're all handing sharp pointy things in to the police etc.

the media really do have amazing power, its just a shame they lie to keep it and the masses happily swallow the garbage. thankfully there is a growing number of people who are wising up to this, i reckon its the old british stiff upper lip making a resurgence. :pokenest:

The Daily Mail is indeed a rag.

The man mentioned in the article, Wolfgang Wodarg, is known for his 'anti' swine flu inoculation stance and has been for some time.

This article from Bild (in English) dates from last August.
