Motivated by this thread just ordered a Flexcut detail knife on amazon. £12.78 delivered. Out for a walk tomorrow to collect wood.

There's a pdf on there that Buckskin did for carving the woodspirit. Also there's an eagle carving tutorial too.

is there a specific guideline for this wood spirit malarki??

does he have to be an old fella with a beard?

where would i find an example of his origins?

or is he just anything that comes from mind to hand when you start?..

i think i already put this on another thread but i suppose its more apt on this one, i was basically hacking away and he began to appear.

i suppose he a spirit of sorts,,...if your from the American North West

Uh ohhhh, Stu, please don't take my comment about beardy old men carved into a staff too literally. I hadn't seen this thread until just now and saw your gorgeous bit of whittlin'. Most impressive, as are the other pictures shown.

I still feel like I have my foot firmly in my mouth and hope that you don't take my own carving a woodspirit thread as arrogance. Those bearded spirits are great, just not for my staff twas all.
