Anyone tried the Cuban rum from Lidl? I gave a bottle of it as a gift but haven't heard any feedback. An ill fated night in my late teens put me off rum long term and I've never really gone back to it.
Not the Cuban yet, but the cheap stuff, James Cook £11 a bottle, is very palatable. My mate brought some round a month or so back. I was pleasantly surprised to be honest.

I've had a few bottles of their Belvoir and Abrachan whiskies. I'm hardly a connoisseur but others have said how nice they are too.

Inches cider seems to be the go-to among my friends at the moment. Thistly Cross is probably my favourite.

I was drinking J&B whiskey for a while just the odd glass. I went through a few bourbons and settled on Bulliet standard, tried the bulliet rye and didn't get on with that and got a 10 year too to try out. tried tin cup, buffalo trace and makers mark.

I find the bulliet is a nicer drink once it been open a few times, just a bit less harsh. GF likes it mixed with ginger ale. Four roses is on my list.

I vary rarely drink nowadays but I’m quite partial to a drop of JD Tennessee Honey or Buffalo Trace.
My past favourites have been Red Stripe, Guinness, whisky macs, homemade Bailey’s, various whiskies, Spitfire & most Adnams ales.

I do find my drinking is more dependent upon the season/weather and or the event or mood. Can't say I have one goto drink for all events - but I do have one goto drink for multiple events. If that makes sense.

Also I get on and off the evolutionary tech tree of cocktail making as funds allow - new bottle of random ingredient < leeches bile gland extract as an example > seems to open up and naturally segue into several new cocktails - which I like and enjoy making as much as the drinking.

Some people quote the ' 50 books you must read before you Die ' - I apply the same to Drinks and Home cooking recipes.

I've reduced my alcohol intake dramatically to support the missus; so cancelled my wine subscription, put away most of the whisky, and I'm now (mostly) drinking 0% Peroni and 0% Guinness - don't scoff, they're OK as long as you've not had a real one beforehand. I still partake of a nice wee dram of single malt, but now and again rather than most nights, and she's not been drinking much whisky for a while now so I'm not tempting her.

I like the 0% Guinness. Scratches the itch for a mid-week beer without the alcohol content.

Also noticed my local pub now has Peroni 0% on tap, so might give that a go some time.

Day to day drink is Rum for me although I am partial to the odd Calvados. Have built up quite a nice collection of rums from different distilleries over the years and tend to have a random snifter rather than opening and finishing a bottle. Having a glass of Caidenheads own overproof blend as I type this, like whisky a couple of drops of water will take the fieryness out of it and open up the profile a little more.

If I could only drink one particular rum for the rest of my natural it would either have to be Appleton's 12 year old or one of the offerings from Foursquare of Barbados.

As for the hipflask, that normally has a goodly portion of Calvados in it, a particular favourite is Jane Lemorton's 15 ans Vieux Calvados Domfrontais* (*to qualify as Domfrontais the spirit blend must contain at least 30 percent distilled perry (pear cider), Lemorton's has around 70% pear which I really like.

I’ve tried both recently and can only detect a slight difference with the Guinness. The Heineken is even better. The bad thing is the lagers smaller bottle size

Lucky Saint lager is indistinguishable from an alcoholic lager, and I often don’t agree with the ‘they taste just the same!’ claims.

Also if you just want to reduce alcohol intake but still enjoy a nice tasting lager, Small Beer do a 2.1% lager in 330ml bottles and they’re lovely.

I used to quite like that one too, and the Punk AF, but found them expensive and simply put me in mind of having a proper beer. In honesty I reckon there are nicer tasting drinks than beer, AF or not, so I’ll happily drink lime and sodas, homemade lemonade, iced tea etc.
