A 4-day basketry course in July covering everything from growing/harvesting to preparation and making. (Have basketry willows growing already, planted this spring).

Been on a couple of other courses with the provider and really enjoyed them. Also shown me the limitations of books and the advantages of learning tips and techniques properly.

Can't beat learning practical skills.

Cheap version of a Wacaco nanopresso from Aldi. Not sure what it’s like yet as haven’t tried it, but seems well made.

I saw that advertised. Half tempted to buy one to try but I think it’s one of those boredom purchases rather than me really needing it - hoping that something else will take my fancy / they sell out.

Be interested to see how you get on with it all the same.

…seems well made.
Famous last words… I can’t get it to stop leaking and hold pressure. Perhaps I just have a faulty one, but even if it did work… it’s pretty fiddly and has so many parts.

If you like the Wacaco ones I’m sure you’d like the Aldi version. But I’m not sure the quality is there.

Hope this helps. I’ll have another play around with it when it’s not so hot and I have more patience.

I’ve actually embarrassingly found a rubber grommet that got misplaced. So hopefully that should solve the leaking.

Won’t solve it being fiddly though and a bit of a faff

I bought a decent coat for my son, a Keela Boulder 3-in-1 after buying numerous coats from Mountain Warehouse. The issue wasn't waterproofness, it was the poor fit of the hood which kept blowing off his head in windy weather. The Keela feels very high quality and has a much better fitting hood.

I got one of these too, just tried it, not convinced.
Safer with an actual coffee pot I think. If this thing heated the water as well but it doesn’t.
Need to find the receipt :-)

Id be interested to hear what you think of this after you've spent some time with it.
Disappointing. I don’t tend to use mine now, glad I got it heavily discounted. It’s not reliable at lighting and if you keep the flame burning too long, it’s as though the wick can’t wick enough fuel and so it starts to glow and burn down. It’s just not as reliable as the zippo system. I bought a Zorro lighter off AliExpress, which is a copy of a Zippo, albeit much, much heavier due to the thickness of the casing, and it has a rubber seal (sadly it doesn’t appear to be replaceable) which stops the fuel evaporating. It really is good, and only £20 or so. I liked it so much I got another with Chinese dragons engraved on it.

Man, that evocative sound of a zippo … nearly make you want to start smoking again.

It looks like a handy tool.
What model is it and where did you get it from?
I got it from the Amazon store. Having a tool that’s compatible with the industry standard makes so much sense.

Erm, model and number is in the pic above. ;)

Sold a LM Charge, bit set and extender, and replaced with a Bibury for £34.99. Sensible 6mm bit holder makes it much more versatile. It’s also a lot more comfortable to grip hard in pliers mode. Seriously impressed.

I saw these in another thread (maybe here, maybe on EM), but couldn't find it over here. So I got a Rocktol SK05 instead, which looks very, very similar (maybe identical) for €49. Unfortunately it is considerably heavier than the Leatherman Supertool that I usually carry.

Bought a Helikon-Tex mesh cap.
Did not like the velcro patches and the broad inside sweatband. So I removed them.
So now I have a pure mesh cap that shields my eyes from the sun and let the sweat freely evapourate into the air. It is a lovely feeling to have a cap on my head and still feel the cooling breeze on my head.

  • Good job

That Helikon-Tex mesh cap would leave an interesting sunburn for us bald uns : )

Having broken the blade on my razor saw some weeks ago and have been lost without it,
today have been looking for a matching replacement saw though they have changed the design a little,
well I only stumbled on the fact that you can replace the blade only, all this time hadnt noticed,
so ordered a couple of

Gyokucho S303 Replacement Blade for 303 Dozuki 240mm

now its just a case of ignoring all the other lovely stuff from a newly discovered
website, workshopheaven.com

£64 on camping tat from The Range, some of which will get some use and possibly some none at all. One item to definitely to go back, described as packing cubes, which I do want, but weren't.
Looking back at it, I think this was a bit of unexpected retail therapy when I was feeling a bit stressed and down.
