German Army Mittens. Bought army surplus but I'm pretty certain these are unissued as look brand new and have a tag on them. I don't think they're as good quality as the Dutch Army Mittens but they are a larger size 10 so I can more easily layer. The leather on these German Army mittens feel faux but not 100% sure but certainly not like the leather on the Dutch ones. Still, they are great value for a tenner.

How many do you need to plant?

Depends how much land you have and how much fuel wood you want.... its a 3 to 4 year coppice rotation.

Each Kit has (a few more than) 200 cuttings, a 25 metre by 8 metre silage sheet, pegs and instructions.

I just put in 2 kits at the new place..... and if they do OK, I have room for a third kit in the areas where the ground is suitable. (I also have a couple of wood burning stoves plus a solid fuel Rayburn which runs on locally mined anthracite, but wood is required to light it).

The cuttings were very fresh, cut the day I collected them (Friday). I put 200-odd in on Saturday, 136 in yesterday and the rest today. It's backbreaking work, getting the sheet down is as much if not more work as the actual planting. I had a big pile of old slates from the house refub that I used (along with pegs and the big rocks dug out of the bed) to secure the edges. I hefted and laid something like 150 slates.

Still have some basketry willow to plant.....

Some more books. Think I'm going to start the Mountain Leader qualification and Hillwalking and the Weather book come recommended.

One of the authors of Keeping Dry & Staying Warm is Mike Parsons who's father founded Karrimor, Mike Parson invented the Karrimor Karrimat. It looks a very interesting read.

Good luck going for your qualification. Its good to keep learning. I have made a point of doing a few courses this year. looking forward to it. x

Arriving today, new hooks, floats and weights, ready for the new season, lost a few last year, result of buying this super fine line from China, which constantly kept breaking off, I can’t recall the name as threw it all away otherwise I would tell you to stay away!

Alpicool 20 litre Portable Fridge Freezer. tested both via mains and with my Jackery, well impressed

Arriving today some more main meal MREs only. Don't need what comes in a full ration pack and I know what meal I am getting. A couple of new ones for me so if I like them bulk order will follow.

Is it this one? (On the right, not the strange looking thing on the left)

Mine arrived on Thursday. :D

Handsome Chap. That's the one. 20 litres works off my Jackery E240 like this guy:

Tested with my Ecoflow under ‘bad’ circumstances the other night.

Parameters:

Added 5 cans of warm pepsi to the fridge
No pre-cooling of anything
Ambient temperature of 20C+ for duration
Plugged into 12V outlet on power station
Set fridge temperature to 2C

Over a 12 hour period it used 188Wh (so a daily rate of 376Wh) including the initial cooling and then run on Eco mode all night.

My Ecoflow is 1024Wh capacity, so would last about 3 days over summer and a bit more if everything’s precooled/some of it frozen.

Taking the setup to the Moot next week to leave in the car and hoping it should last 5 days or so given the lower ambient temperatures.

Wouldn't have thought you needed a cooler at the Moot, air temp at the moment is about 3 deg C during the day and less at night. Maybe a bear bag slung up in a tree, with a funnel to keep the squirrels off.
