This is the first tankard I've made, so others can advise better than me on this, but I've never had tainting of whiskey or sloe gin when drunk from my leather whiskey tumblers or shot glasses. In fact the aroma of beeswax complements the whiskey very well.

That is a very nice bit of kit, can I ask what the handle is stuffed / formed with? I am guessing it's some form of rope.
No - it's just wet moulded, and then it hardens with the beeswax. No connection with them myself, but there's a video series on making a tankard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1idjilWDlM Look out for the feline star of the show.

After christening the tankard tonight with my home brew (from home grown hops) I have to agree!
There's another one already in the making so, if anyone is interested, keep an eye out in the Makers' Market.

I am currently teaching two lads of 14 and 16 how to make tankards such as these, for the D of E awards. I reckon they will be well pleased if theirs turn out like this.
