I was messing in the garden today (thread on pumpkin soup anyone?) and I noticed the insects going mad for "fruit leavings"

Firstly the hornets always seem to go mad for the pressing of grapes on my compost heap

And later a Red Admiral eating rotting windfalls which is something I have never seen before - his proboscis is right in there and there were others (all Red Admirals) doing the same so I have no doubt they were feeding

Not sure if anyone else finds it interesting - but it fascinates me

I must admit JonnyP cured me of any fear of hornets with his wonderful pictures of them sitting on his hand. Although BIG and scary they are truly the "gentle giants" of the wasp world - lovely things
