Just a quick running total - 22 people - 158 axes of which 11 are Sfa's.

Averaging approximately 7 axes per person - and the SFA makes up only ~7% of total axes owned....

I must say these figures are surprising. Perhaps if I asked the question a few years ago the figures would have been slightly different as I'm sure there has been a fall in the popularity of the small forest axe.

Yes, very surprising to me as well. I thought the SFA would have been much more popular. So far it looks as if I have a real problem too:eek:

These are off my budget, never paid more than few quid for a used head and only exeption are two farm use axes from Fiskars that does the heavy work. Athough if someone would give me SFA for a pressent that would make my day, but I'd rather buy Carpenters axe or Carving axe if you ask me...

A couple of years ago, you'd have caught me with an SFA. I sold it and bought a GB-made Mears Wilderness axe in its stead because I preferred the longer handle and a bit more weight in the head - gives me a bit more oomph for felling/limbing tasks without really sacrificing close up work. Yes, it's a compromise! That said, the axe that almost always makes into my pack for days and nights out is the good ol' little Husqvarna hatchet - a brilliant piece of kit.

Maybe with Wetterlings and Hultafors offering really good alternatives to the SFA, people are buying more of them and saving themselves a few pennies at the same time. Just a thought...
