  • Merry Christmas Guest, we hope that you have a great day wherever you are, and we're looking forward to hearing of your adventures in the New Year!
a Spyderco Urban has been my daily for years. its such a well designed knife for the UK. light enough to be unnoticeable in the pocket, small enough not to bother people, has a deep carry clip, and is easy use one handed.
i really prefer the look of traditional pocket knives though and have just treated myself to a Rosecraft knife with a bone handle. it seems to be of very good quality.

I have many, some my grandfather’s, some my father’s, and the rest mine, mainly newer (1970s to present) ones. This is one I keep coming back to for its simplicity, it takes a lovely edge and I like the worn blade- I’m not sure who’s side of the family it came from, but I think my grandfather on my mother’s side who died when I was very young- the worn blade is like a link to him. :)

That looks Brit military of some description.

It is of that pattern type- the chequered handle slabs, but there are no military markings on, no broad arrow. I think that knife manufacturers just made knives to that pattern to appeal to the many former soldiers after the Great War, it was just a popular pattern.
If I’m right about which side of the family it came from, it was my mother’s father’s knife. He nearly got left for dead from a shot to the stomach in WW1, luckily, a local (to his home town of Westhoughton near Bolton) bobby who knew him insisted on him getting taken to the field hospital where he made a full recovery, although he would never talk about his war experiences, but once a year, he would go visit the bobby, taking my mother, although my mother was never privy to their conversations.
