Part 1.
I’ve written a few posts on the slingshot forum about vehicle everyday carry (VEDC). I tried to answer from slightly different points of view. I've been interesting in the topic for a while so Ive added and updated a number of ideas. I’ve written a few meaty posts with good detail.

Highlights / Table of contents
I have a mini-review drafted on that sewing needle I want to post sometime. But I have another job for it.

Part 2.
I was reading through the preparation guides from various countries. The UK guides are unbelievable awful, and lack any assemblance of the detail needed. I was making notes and counting a few ideas in a spreadsheet. My primary goal was to rob the 72h bag pages of their content, I’m only part way through what I intended.

I present the headings I’ve got:

Books, games, playing cards. (ear plugs and eye mask too?).
Bottle of water, spare water containers.
Cash (Small notes and coins).
Cooking system, fuel and leather welding gloves.
Documents in waterproof pouch.
Extra bags for waste and litter.
First aid kit.
Flash light (spare batteries), matches and a lighter, candles.
Glasses and glasses prescription.
Gorilla tape and Frog tape.
Personal hygiene and grooming kit.
Personal medication.
Phone charger and Power bank.
Radio (and spare batteries).
Sleep system (Estonia).
Something to eat.
Swiss army knife.
Warm clothes (minimum: hat and neck warmer).
Water purification tablets (Estonia).
Wet wipes and hand sanitiser.

Now, can I ask people to watch their tone.

Yes you're welcome to use it.

Prepping comedy eh?. Sounds like a good source subject to use as the basis for a comedy. I look forward to reading that when it's done.
i am writing a book called about living outside the system (as best we can). it is serious but light and comedic. it is coming on really well. I will post on here when I publish it x

Yes I have four horses. When you say you have a cart and want to travel with it do you mean a small trap style cart or something larger like what gypsies used to use? Either way it sounds very interesting but I admit you are much braver than me if you intend to go on public roads with one.

Mind you after the dust has settled (and radiologically decayed) it may one day end up being the best way to travel again lol. ;)

Half on this stuff I can get behind. Half of it - respectfully - ' may ' be a step too far for many people and require some justification if stopped and searched for any reason - namely fuel siphon kit . not sure what the legal terminology maybe specific to this but It may well fall under ' going equipped '

A lot of how justified items maybe does depend on where you are going to use a vehicle for most of the time this stuff is on board. Wilds of Scotland and parts of Wales where they don't speak the Kings English , understandable ( especially the camping stuff ) - mincing around on a daily commute in Slough... not so much.

But we are all entitled to think what we want and do what we want - in reason.
I guess for myself I would consider the list broken up in maybe Three groupings to indicate probability and impact of use 1) Daily urbanesque commute , 2) Wilds of the UK 3) Expedition style touring.

Just some feedback - constructive , not critical.

Depends where you live too.

Since moving, travelling to the Midlands for work takes me over some elevated roads and a "mointain road" to get home (quite a few "mountain roads " in west Wales). So my routine winter drive for work takes me through "wild" areas.

My work vehicle is a Hilux, and I will be updating my kit in there before winter, although already have the basics in there,

it is a dray cart, four wheeler like the rag and bone man which is one of my ambitions. It is much quieter here on the roads in Ireland and that doesnt matter anyway as I have never let fear of what might happen stop me doing anything. I think if I am sensible about things then it will be ok. besides I have literally put the cart before the horse and the job at hand is simply to restore it from a pile of mixed up parts and old planks to something useful and road worthy. if I can do that and get moving that will be the fulfilment of a life times work of getting off grid and becoming contract and money free. its been a long road. I am in the market before hand if a good wagon mare was to come up for sale. great stuff. Thanks for chatting with me and showing an interest. DD x

Well I'm seeing reports of sabs on scooters, getting into Brize Norton and sabotaging planes, then getting away unchallenged. Oops!
Sleeper cells activating?
I'm not gonna go into details, as it might be deemed political, but its out there on yt. Seems mainstream media are keeping very quiet tho. Wonder why? Surely this breach of security should be major news and a big hue and cry to catch the perps.?
What's the next target?
Also, massive solar flare hit hawai yesterday, and caused a large blackout. Watch for that volcano to go big! I'm calling something big going down ( or up)in the Pacific area within the next month or so.
Keep prepping folks. Time to take things a bit more seriously about the home, as well as the car.
Making plans on how you might get kids home from school if there is a major problem, safe place for them to go to etc and practice them. Hope to never need, but at least they will know what to do and expect in an emergency.
For instance, in my situation,
My son went to infant/junior school 9 miles away across the moor. Senior was 15 miles even further across the moor. If anything happened to me, being a mostly single parent, I made sure that a trusted local family would take him in untill the situation could be resolved. A seemingly small matter, and not needed, but it gave peace of mind.

Looks like it's on LBC/Daily Mail/Evening Standard, it was the delightful Pro Palestine crowd. Really sticking it to Israel by... vandalising planes in British airports. I'm amazed they had the time off from their day jobs as neurosurgeons to do such a thing.

The story has also been all over the BBC TV news and web site.

What it does show is how easy it seems to be to gain access to supposedly secure sites to do what ever people fancy without being challenged or caught. Doesn't bode well for other infrastructure.

Much infrastructure in all Western countries is basically undefended to at least some extent as it's not possible to defend it. Always been the case, other than during WWII during which time someone being stupid enough to push the limits was at genuine risk of being shot on sight.

However, these "protest" groups are generally savvy enough to realise that if they get close to creating proper havoc, it's not going to end well for them. There's a limit, which no doubt is why the JSO lot and their predecessors eventually wound their necks in. Also why the IRA were relatively restrained in picking their targets on the mainland (and usually giving warnings)..... they were actually very disciplined and selective in what they did. Enough to get attention and "the oxygen of publicity," not enough to create the conditions where the wider public seriously demanded their extinction.

I'd say it's also better to let a level of on-street protest to go on than to try to bottle it up.... unless it gets potentially dangerous. So the pro-Palestine lot doing something which was essentially harmless can have their day in the media, whereas a riot which could pose a real threat to law and order will be dealt with.

That's IMO a pretty healthy way of dealing with the inevitable tensions in society, and nothing new really.

In the 1980's it was the CND and Greenham common, more recently it was Extinction Rebelllion (who were outstandingly good at creating visual spectacle) then JSO, and the latest "cause" is the "pro-Palestine" lot (many of whom have no idea which river or sea is referred to in the "from the river to the sea" chant").

I'm far more concerned about the proposal of NESO to lower the Grid Inertia minimum requirements...... https://watt-logic.com/2025/06/18/should-neso-be-allowed-to-lower-its-minimum-inertia-requirement/

Thing is, if this lot can get away with it, it opens the gates for some seriously bad actors to wreak a great deal of damage with ease and little culpability untill the job is done. Too late then to wring hands and wail.
Sadly Britain is an easy target nowadays considering the threats to our general security. Look at the recent firebombing of starmers assets past and present. OK, no one was hurt, but it just shows how easy it is for the disgruntled..let alone trained and serious actors.
They won't be sending warnings like the ira did.
My spidy senses are on alert, even in my sleepy corner of Britain.

Lowering the GI minimum could be scary but if wind farms are regulated to the same degree as non-renewable it will go quite a way to mitigate the issue.

That report shows how little the integrated industry is monitored.

Many UK airfields were defended by a junior soldier or airman, often as a result of some misdemeanour.
They were usually armed with a pick handle.
I guess we are short of handles and people now.

My father defended Hawarden Airfield with two Lewis guns. When locals complained a hossifer arrived and told them to dig two more gun emplacements. They were to put the ammunition in the otherwise empty holes and put a sentry visible next to each of them.

I’d like to think something has changed.

It’s no secret that most airfields have secure areas within the airfield.
Upper Heyford, former home of the US nuke bombers used to have a road and numerous footpaths going through it.
They run tours now if anyone’s interested

I don't know why I mentioned the hawaii volcano earlier, just a stream of consciousness post I guess.
Just seen that kilauea on hawaii has erupted today with a lava fountain 1,000 feet high.
The post that showed it is only an hour old., I said it at about 2pm uk time. It's now 7.37pm
Spooky. Why...how... did I know that? Hawaii was hit with a solar flare that knocked out much of the island communications yesterday. Knowing space weather, I just felt that it would reactivate the volcano that was erupting, but stopped on the 11th June. My gut feeling was right. I still feel spooked. Of course it could just be coincidence. I'm not so sure. Still a tad weird tho.

You have a gift for predicting what's going to happen. I don't know if I want to ask what's going to happen in the Middle East - I guess I like my unawareness and everyday life
