Any idea what this is?

Took these pics in the woods I camp out in.
Woke up to find this near the where we pitched.

Any one know what it is? Looked a bit like slug or snail trails but if it is there must have been lots or a few very big ones. Tried to take a pic of the total area it covered but it did not turn out well.

Looks like decomposing plant matter. Not really sure.

could be slugs (they make a heck of am ess when they get together) or eel slime, No so much in woods though

I've never seen so many huge black slugs as there are around here this year. Sometimes when I take the dogs out in the mornings it's tricky finding a place to step without squashing one.

it looked like Algae to me, when you drag it out of a pond and it dries up. I wondered if some animal had regurgitated something

Was it in a depression, looks like a puddle or boggy pool thats had algae grow in it then its dried out and the algae has died laying on the old plant stems.
