Almost lost my Mora Clipper....twice

Does anyone else think it was a bad idea to buy a predominantly green knife (Mora Clipper)? Almost lost the bloody thing twice, while camping at the weekend:togo:. Think i might have to tape the handle with something fluro! In hindsight i should have gone with one of these:

I lost a Mora twice in a field in the same month. Yes I agree, green knife + green area = trouble.

Did you lose it from your belt, complete with sheath? Possibly when sitting down?

If so, try feeding a loop of cordage around your belt, then hanging the sheath from that "double dangler" style.

I once dropped a cheapy camo maglite which was never to be seen again, I meant to go back in winter but never got round to it.

You can buy 3M reflective tape which is handy for marking stuff up with

I lost a AW Woodlore over the Brecons a few years back. It was in the neck sheath on a baldrick. Never noticed it had fallen out. It was around the same time that I joined these forums and was amused to find out that Rapidboy had lost his WS Woodlore at the same time.

I stupidly took it off my belt and chucked it across the camp site to a friend....in the dark. OK so that time would have been my fault ;o), but yes the other time it just came off when i sat down. The clip seemed pretty robust and i didnt think it would have been possible.
I like the cord and 3M reflective tape ideas. Maybe one of those whistling gadgets for your keys...

Yeah go then, swmbo bought me a surfy type Animal wallet years ago which was a nice camo pattern. It got taken off me when I got mugged at knife point in Tenergrief.

I have one of the blaze orange clippers, principally for the reasons you've described! Definately not easy to lose, although you need to take care if you're swinging it around as light aircraft can mistake them for airport landing lights

As to losing your knife...how?
Mine is either on my belt or in my pocket in its sheath or in my hand being used....... confused and bewildered...dont tell me people leave sharps lieing around when they are not in use! shock - horror!

i still use my camo wallet.
its used for holding the assortment of cards you gain but rarely need ie blockbusters member card, discount cards etc thus allowing me to know where the blasted things are but not have to carry them everywhere when rarely used.
as for loosing knives my dad lost several when cabbage picking as a youngster in the time it took to put the cabbage in its box.

i neerly lost my mora several times and once lost then luckily found the sheath! im not sure what is worse when you'v got a long hike home.
iv sorted this problem by making some tassels for both the knife and sheath from bright yellow cord and havn't had any problems since
bright string is cheeper than buying a new knife, especially if it cost more than the average mora.

Trouser pocket both times. The sheath was green too.

Been there.
I lost a lovely buck hunter on a mountain in Vancouver, sad day.
I now mostly use a bright red 'tradesman' mora.
Even if I lose it it's a couple of quid to replace.

We had a geology field trip to the Isle of Skye when I was a student.

Geologists use layers of similar features, such as fossils, to mark time as they are laid down at the same time interval. We joked about the 'Skye Student Geological Hammer' horizon as several were put down and forgotten but several others were found, slightly rusty, from previous years (Geo depts always go back to the same place each year).

I always used a dayglo wallet for just that reason and had a bright loop of climbing rope on my Estwing hammer!

I keep a close eye on my knives now ane tend t tie on things like SAK and car keys.

This is why I have the orange version of the laplander saw, with a fluorescent pink lanyard... And another flouro pink lanyard on my firesteel. Haven't quite gone to those lengths on my main knife, but I have trained myself to never, ever put it down on the ground.
