Ah, SAK!

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I have plenty of them, love them!
I have a alu Pioneer which is a favourite EDC, so practical and usefull and would not be without it for normal usage but also I love the Forester when I'm out and about and require a little more "grunt" and a locking blade & saw.
I have had Victorinox SAK's since I was small and could not say anything bad about them

The old Champion has a place in my heart, mine is over 20 years old and still going strong. But truth to tell I generally carry a Rucksack; larger lockblade and longer saw. The latter one is in my pocket just about every day of the year. I like the SwissTool as well, even if the Philips blade is a bit of a Cyprinidae. I probably should regrind it into a proper shape...

Drooling slightly over a one handed Trekker (would then fix the Oidipedal serration, of course), but the only improvement is the one handed opening, and I loose the holder for the tiny screwdriver (but gain a Philips driver).

Recently got myself a wenger evolution 17 and use it all the time! I was never a fan before but somehow an interest was sparked when I saw it and I decided Id give it a try.

At the last count I'd got about 30! (Maybe I need help!)

My usual "EDC" is a Hiker, modified along the lines of Chris Lubkemann's recommendations in his book of whittling.
Favourites are the Farmer, modded Hiker, the Huntsman, the old Soldier, the Pocket Pal and the Solo.
Please don't make me pick just one!

Dave

PS - I've almost certainly forgotten a few other favourite! Good job there's no wrong answer.

I have 2, an explorer & one i'm not sure but it has the saw on it. Do they have a model that has the saw, philips screwdriver & the scissors, with a non-locking blade ?.

Red alox Farmer, then green scaled hunter, explorer.

Couple of others are lying about.

Don't like the corkscews on sacs.

I have quite a few Victorinox and Wenger SAKs i have aquired over the years, but my favourite has to be the Victorinox Mauser german officers knife,i purchased it in Aldershot in 1986,still use it and i still have the original box.Excellent knife.

I prefer a Spartan or Tinker because of their size(for my pocket).I like the Tinker more though because it has a phillips screwdriver instead of a corkscrew, which I have no use for.
Over 30 years now with a SAK in my pocket, 24/7.

I've got the Victorinox huntsman for my EDC as its a non locking, very versitile, when i go camping i use the Forrester for its slightly larger and locking blade so i don't loose fingers :D
both exceptionally good knives.

I have a lot of Vic SAK's but always in my pocket is the standard red handle Rambler. Out in the wilderness I carry a red alox Farmer, my favorite SAK and to me the strongest and most useful. I do wish they'd make a Farmer with a liner lock on the main blade, that would be PERFECT!

My others include some old standards and some lockblades. I do like the Pioneer, have a few but in the woods I like the little saw blade for small cutting tasks, like notching sticks and such.

Cheers!

i have several
i use to cary a spartan model in my bob pack(because i saw it an bought it at a garage sale),then an other one at my working trousers belt( because it is thin and light, and i have everthing else at my reach for heavier task)
i do own an out rider model i honestly don't like to carry(i'm disturbed by the locking blade,it's big,it lacks a second small blade)
i have two camping ,they are pretty fine, but i miss the shears...
