Excellent!

I have a theory about bottled water/liquids and the weird weather and climate changes, mainly that taking thousands/millions of tonnes of water
out of the ecosystem and storing it in containers that don't allow evaporation is mucking the system up creating a major climate change.

(And the governments wonder why the reservoirs and rivers dry up in summer?!)

But what will people on telly do? i mean they never go to the tap for a drink of water they go to the fridge and open a bottle! they will all shrivel up.
On second thoughts what a great idea.

Don't even get me going on this...

In 2006 the US bottled water industry spent $165,000,000 on advertising

In 2008 the US bottled water industry took in 11.7 Billion (with a capital "B") dollars.

The fact that the water is in bottles isn't the problem. You have to truck the bottles of water all over the country. I have a relative who has perfect tap water yet has cases of bottled water in the basement and act like they'll get cholera from the tap.

I remember an anti-pollution ad from the 70's in which a man shouts out "I don't want to live in a world where my daughter has to drink water from a CAN!" Some exec at Coke or Pepsi had an epiphany at that moment. Mac

I use flouridated toothpaste, hence no need to overdose with the water. flouride in toothpaste is my choice, not an enforced medication with no proven heath benefits and suspicious evidence of serious side effects

Exept from study as to why Belgium banned fluoridated water

Belgium prohibits - as the first country in the world - fluoride supplements

"July 29, 2002

Fluoride tablets, fluoride drops and fluoride chewing gum, for decades promoted as the crown jewels of dentistry, are going to be taken off the market because they are poisonous and pose a great risk for physical and psychological health. This has been decided by the Federal Minister of Public Health Magda Aelvoet. As soon as the royal decision is published in the government's "Staatsblad", the prohibition will become valid. Thus Belgium becomes the first country in the world to prohibit fluoride supplements.

In a report from 1999 UNICEF complained that certain governments knew insufficiently how poisonous fluoride is - especially for children, as their young organism absorbs more fluoride than an adults'. In the same year HUMO wrote a dossier about the dangers of fluoride (Humo Nr.17/33059, April 20, 1999). We got a lot of reaction at the time, particularly from dentists who, though undoubtedly with good faith, echoed the arguments of fluoride proponents. Then it became quiet around this question again.

But the usefulness of fluoride has been doubted worldwide for a long time already. Over the years at least 12 Nobel Prize winners in Medicine and Chemistry have warned of the associated health risks. To make children take fluoride is not only useless against caries, it is plainly dangerous. Tooth and bone decalcification as a result of fluoride even has a name - fluorosis. Fluoride is very reactive and it goes deep into the bones and cells where it is accumulated. Yes, the tooth surface becomes much harder, but the tooth itself becomes more brittle. From a lot of research it seems that fluoride causes joint problems, skeletal deformations, osteoporosis, and that it can even cause bone cancer. Also the brain cannot escape from it. Fluoride has a negative influence on the nervous system and the immune system, and in children it can lead to (chronic) fatigue, a lower IQ, learning disabilities, lethargy and depression.

GONE & RICH

Sodium fluoride, which is used in the so-called food supplements, is 80 times more poisonous than the naturally occurring calcium fluoride, with which it is often confused even by medical professionals. And - not unimportantly - it is a poisonous waste product of the aluminum and artificial fertilizer industry. Multinationals, like Exxon, US Steel and Alcoa, can get rid of their waste totally legally, and they even get rich from it. Especially in the US does the fluoride lobby everything to add more fluoride to the drinking water. And who has President Bush named as Minister of Finance? Paul O'Neill, head of Alcoa, the biggest aluminum producer in the world."

Hmmmmm so whats the benefit of flouride then, nice teeth,on the negative side you may get numerous nasty disease's so why put it in? for who's benefit? its a conspiracy theorist's wet dream. Id like to be the one to choose my own use of any chemical thanks very much!(disclaimer i am chemical free as far as im aware)

I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s when there didn't seem to be an obsession with drinking water. Maybe I'm taking a bit of a macho attitude now, but we went from breakfast to lunch, and then from lunch to teatime without drinking in between (apart from free milk at morning break when we were very small). We sat 3-hour school exams without any break for refreshments.

Nowadays, the bottle of water seems to be as much of a fashion accessory as the mobile phone and it is a loss of your personal rights if you can't take water anywhere you go.

So what has changed? Why is everyone (where everyone = lots of people) so obsessed with bottled water nowadays?

Read the article as well and am glad it went the way it did down under.

Now when we can change the fact that in Holland we use drinking water to:

Flush the toilet
Do the dishes
Do the laundry
Shower
Hose down the car or garden
etc....

I will be even happier!

Regrettably that's the case over here too. I know people who are putting in greywater systems for domestic washing, etc., but it's pretty expensive and only seems worthwhile if you are already doing major work on your house - and even at that stage, I don't think it is currently cost effective, but allows you to take the moral high ground!

Mains tapwater must surely be almost equally absurd if not more so than bottled water. The mere idea of transporting water all over the place (and losing a large proportion of it on the way is nuts). In most places you can get it out of the ground, treat it on site if required and return it to the ground. You only then need to treat what you drink - not what you flush the loo with. No permission required to install a domestic borehole or septic tank

There's no way that's going to work in major cities or other densely populated areas. The entire South East would be in permanent drought.

Arguably true Dunc but I have lived on well water very comfortably in the South East. Perhaps it should be given a grant the same as alternative energy?

Or perhaps we shouldn't try to concentrate more people into an area than the land can support!
