What fungi did you spot today?

  • BushMoot: Come along to the amazing Summer Moot 31st July - 5th August (extended Moot : 27th July - 8th August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
today i harvested some cramp ball fungus -- i've no idea if it's daldinia concentrica or a tropical relative, but they can be found on several tree species around here (f.i. citrus trees and "cornisuelo" (no idea how that's spelled))
funny thing is i saw them often in europe but didn't learn about their use until after i left and joined this forum...

I believe these to be Velvet Rollrims.

Charcoal Burner is my shot at these ones. Not confident enough to eat them, but they appear to be a brittlegill without brittle gills.

Blushers. Great example of the skirt typical of an Amanita. Stirations running down the skirt outwards from the stem. A poisonous lookalike, the Panthercap, has a smooth topped skirt.

Tawny grisette.

Found these giants last week next to a road in Amsterdam, I believe them to be lurid boletes (edible, but not to be taken in combination with alcohol):

And these CotW are on the way to the park next to my work (also in Amsterdam), on the 28th of july;

And just 6 days later:

There's even more on the other side:

I've collected some of the CotW for my girlfriend, her daughter and some for myself that will end up in a curry tikka massala, and in a jambalaya ;)

Cheers,

Tom

I was just wondering about the food value of mushrooms vs the risks if you get it wrong. The Holland and Barrett website lists all the nutrients etc etc and claims mushrooms are high in them. But their own numbers vs claimed RDA are tiny.
For taste, texture, and bulking out a meal great, very nice, but for food value collecting in the wild I don't think it's worth the risk.

I suppose it depends upon your level of knowledge. I expect for most people who forage fungi it's fairly low risk, because they have a certain level of knowledge.
For myself, I never eat anything I'm not 100% on.
