I was just watching a video of someone dressed like a Storm Trooper ( for costume value ) piloting what was described as a Jet Bike - looking similar to the jet bikes from Star Wars flying through the forest. Very impressive. At least for the inner child in me that remembers watching it on the big screen.

( Hoping its a real thing but seems , somewhat unlikely , But in honesty I have no idea )

As we have had threads here that have resurfaced after a decade , I thought it maybe interesting to make some future predictions of what technology will bring to us in a decades time?

With the advent of AI , drones , 3D printing , Neural Network , Reusable rockets , and all other different advancements where or what do you predict we will see as common place in 10 years time.

( I appreciate some here may wish to make some GeoPolitical statements about the world , where we are going and whom they think is responsible but lets try to keep to the task assignment and colour inside the lines please. )


So - Are we all going to be seeing the wonders of Tomorrows World in a decades time?

‘Existence’ by David Brin is a good read. Autistics are recognised as geniuses with what we’d call superpowers, everyone wears smart glasses that provide tons of info without having to use a tablet or phone screen. I think these two things will happen.

Most of Tomorrows World and The Jetsons style future, free energy, much better health for everyone hasn’t happened. And CDs were rubbish . Vinyl, it’s the future, actual vibrations recorded onto plastic. Brilliant!

I see a big move away from materialism, no flying cars, motorbikes or other trinkets can ultimately satisfy our inner needs.

The job losses to AI could be quite incredible. Anything that can be done on computer can be done by computer. The interesting one to watch will be the legal system. AI barristers, judges, etc? Will laws be written by AI?

There seems to be steps being taken to study and utilise mycelium in computer tech. I've not read up on it too much, so not sure what direction it's going in. But, it's not a huge leap of the imagination to envisage a living computer. Perhaps it's another step in the road towards interfacing the human body with computer/mechanical technology.

Everybody sees the light, stops chasing the next big thing and lives happily in close-knit communities, close to nature, growing food and rearing livestock, and all the useful peripheral activities which support those fundamental two, using practical skills and natural materials?

Nah, it'll be flying cars and futuristic monorails by the year 2000.

On a serious note I hope there will be advanced healthcare robots to deal with the ever-incresing mental health problems caused by social media, artificial intelligence, lack of purpose/belonging/community, and detatchment from nature and reality. Or perhaps it will just be a handy chatbot sympathy service.

When I trained as a teacher in 1966/69, my subject, Art , and PE were both highly regarded because "In the world of the future, most of the work will be done by computers and robots leaving a large amount of leisure for people to engage in cultural and sporting activities". I quote from a lecture of the time. There was a tacit assumption that such worthy pursuits would prevent the devil from making work for idle hands.

This future would have been possible if the wealth generated had been more equitably distributed. I live in hope, but not much, that politicians will create the fairer world we envisaged in the 1960s and give peace and love a chance. Also that farmers breed squadrons of flying pigs.

I guess I was wondering more " applied applications " , Do you think we will have driverless heavy haulage on the roads?
Pilots removed from Aircrafts?
More 'smart' houses?

We’ve got a lot further with Roomba and mobile phone technology than that. People are really starting to harness the full potential of both.

For good or ill we’ve come a lot further than THAT!

The various audio controllers like Alexa are robots as are smart switches.
