Hi, Before you dive into looking at the pix be sure to take the time to read the text in this posting please, this will avoid confusion OK? Thanks.
A couple of months ago I sold a Take Down axe to Wildgoose, a member on here after he took a fancy to the rusty lump of metal that was in the pic below. He chose head number 5. (Heads 1 &2 are provisionally sold/traded as well.)

This is how it looked after I'd cleaned it up, fitted a new hickory handle to it and sharpened the edge till it could split atoms with ease. Who needs Oppenhiemer?

I had several PMs afterwards about these axes and pre-sold and traded a couple.
Then Cowboy posted and comment saying he'd like to see the stash of old tools I have secreted under my bench. Well my bench has moved a few times since that posting, but the other day I emptied out the box in my mate's workshop. Here it is pre-clean up stage. I had all the axes heads and such sitting in a vat of water for the past 2 months soaking off the caked on rust. I saw a tutorial on youtube about it and me being basically a lazy sod it seemed a good idea.
This is how they looked after I hooked them out, wiped the black and/or red sludge off and dried them in the sunshine.

Five heads waiting in the queue for a vigorous brush up.

Pic if the during process on a socket headed bearded axe. Incidentally that wire bursh attachment on my grinder is now as bald as me!

Here she is all cleaned up. Pretty eh?

This is as far as I got two weeks ago when I took the photo.

Last Wednesday I spent the whole day putting edges on each of them so that they're all nice and sharp. Some are shaving sharp. I fitted new handles to two billhooks too. All these heads are now blacked up with stove blacking polish to keep the rust at bay and are now waiting for their new hickory handles to be shaped and fitted.
I shall be bringing most of these to the Moot for selling on the bring and buy table or traders day. However the two tomahawk heads in the top row far right are provisionally sold already, The rest are up for grabs eventually.
Hope you like what you see. Another example of Axe porn ... here's another from Hugo
