Half of these don't even rhyme!

I have to admit, my own favourite rhyme is one of my own... I came across a Tom Paxton song called I'm Changing My Name to Chrysler and decided it needed updating. (Hey, it's folk music! It's OK. :)) Reworking the chorus was problematic, until I decided to replace the lines "I will tell some power broker / What they did for Iacocca" (that's Lee Iacocca) with "I will tell some mandarin / What they did for Fred Goodwin"... Took me bleedin' ages to come up with that!

(I had reworked it as "I'm changing my name to Barclays", but I've since found out that Barclays was one of the few that didn't get a bail-out, so I'll have to go with "I'm changing my name to HBOS" or something, which doesn't scan as well... Stupid reality!)

I'm sure there's also a bunch of great Tom Waits ones that I'm not remembering right now.

Found my way upstairs and had a smoke, and somebody spoke and I went into a dream ahhhhhh ahhhhhh ahhhhhh ahhhhhhh"

You used to get it in your fishnets / Now you only get it in your night dress

Arctic Monkeys

Assonance rather than rhyme but I like it.

Anything by Ian Dury, lyrical genius but sadly not much you can post on a family forum. A bit of Billericay Dickie might just pass

One of my fave Dury lyrics is written about Noddy but you'll have to google that one cos it certainly isn't repeatable here.

On of the cleverest has to be

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.
