Hi folks. I'm haven't made a forum post since around 2009, but I have singular intentions so I will adhere to protocol.
I am Francis and I live about 30 minute drive from Crater Lake NP in Oregon. 5 minutes by snowmobile.
I have an 80-100 mile drive to the nearest grocery store, one w9ay.
I spend a lot of time in the backcountry here; hunting, foraging, snares, fishing. Along with a coworkwr/dear friend, I act as first responder for car accidents for a ~40 mile radius. It simply takes too long for anyone else to get here.
In the winter I do search and rescue on snowmobile. People overestimate their ability and lose track of time when riding, and suddenly it's pitch black and blizzard.
I'd say my favorite hobby in the woods is the deliberate avoidance of population densities.

I make a lot of diy stuff and often have a project to fill my time. Attached images are of my current project, rattlesnake skin grips. From what I understand, if I show pictures of firearms I'll get thrown in the stockades by an Earl or Viscount or something, so I'll just show the grips themselves. Still have detail work to do on them.

The reason I made this account is I want to buy a bunch of John Fenna's books/material. I was looking for diy bushcraft stuff and I consistently was brought to this website via John Fenna posts. I ended up making my own pattern for a shelter/poncho, but I'll never turn down more knowledge.

If yall have any questions then fire away.
I hopped freight trains for four years all over north America, got stuck in Cambodian jail for a month, sailed from Hawaii to Jamaica.

Hello and welcome to the forum! That’s quite the entrance….

No Earl if anywhere…but we have a fierce wee Scottish bouncer on staff will put you straight. :beerchug:

I am curious about the skin grips, both how well the resin works to hold them together, but also on how comfortable and functional they are. They look very directionally grippy, which is a contrast to the smooth wood and ivory grips I have seen pictures of.

Hope you find some interesting stuff here in addition to John’s wares, there is some good stuff in the bygone years.

Chris

Hello, and welcome to the forum. Come and join the conversations :)

It's always interesting to see what someone else makes

Our only ask on guns/dead animals, etc., has been that the poster is aware of normal British school, library and uni sensibilities, and posts anything that might get someone questioned about their viewing, into Fair Game.
Anyone opening Fair Game ought to know by now that the onus is on them to be aware of any potential audience......the, "fierce wee Scottish bouncer" :rolleyes2:

Earl ?.....I'm minded of the song Wolfcreek Pass, and stepping on a plum.....google lyrics, Wolfcreek Pass :D
