Hi Sticks,
It depends largely on whether I'm on my own or in a group, where I plan to go and what type of dixies I'm using. I have an array of pots but the most often used are a set with handles on the sides, what began life as a tea caddy for tea-making (holds 2 cups water) and Tatonkas with a hanging bale, and I mix and match.
I quite often find myself in a treeless environment, where dry peat can hopefully be found in summer. In such places my fire will be on sand or gravel beside a stream and dixies will sit beside or on top, perched on peat blocks or rocks. Failing that, there's my petrol stove or a Benghazi Burner(also useful for getting peat to start smouldering).
The ex-tea caddy has a close fitting lid and goes straight into the embers; fast & efficient:
The side handle dixies sit on rocks beside the fire & over embers.
The Tatonkas will either hang on a crane type, as you have illustrated, adjustable by multiple tongue and groove and a second pot, if needed, will stand by the fire. I've had issues in the past with trying to hang 2 pots on 1 crane. A lost fire isn't worth the hassle.
If feeding more than 2 people with multiple pots, I'll use a cross-bar on double A-frame, or tripod arrangement and try to position side branches for adjustment. It can work quite well but I don't do it often enough to approach the task in a consistent manner.
