I flick through the forum regularly and am always amazed at the extraordinary range of skills and talents shown by the contributors here. It gave rise to this question: which object/article has, in your opinion, impressed you the most and, if you want to, why? It can be carving, leatherwork, a knife or knives, clothing, clever or intelligent modifications - anything that might be made by the bushcraft community in the woods or, at a pinch, in the workshop but definitely for use in the outdoors. The is only one condition: you cannot put forward a sample of your own work!

See it a some sort of celebration of the best of bushcraft!

Wow, tough call, there are so many things I've read about on here that impress me. Most recently, the Lynx can stoves and the scrimshaw

I've sort of heard about these somewhere in the aether but what exactly are they and where do they come from?

It's basically a rectangular waterproof sheet with zips around all the edges. The zips are arranged in a reasonably cunning fashion so that you can use it as a tarp/windbreak, sleeping/bivi bag, sitting bag, pup tent, poncho and probably other things I haven't discovered yet. They can have an insulating liner or no liner, and the insulating liners come in a couple of different weights. Mine is called the 'Thermo Extreme' which is 200g/sq.m. and apparently now there's one with that liner weight which has a detachable liner although mine's older and the liner isn't detachable. The inside (when it's zipped up) of the waterproof shell is coated with some kind of heat reflecting material which I think is what makes it so much warmer than you'd expect.

Coincidentally there's a thread running now about them here:

So many things have impressed me, gorgeous leatherwork, fantastic knives, beautiful pieces of art each and every one.

But if I could only choose one, for me, it would be the carved wood spirits.... love 'em.

I'd have to agree with Graham.

My first thought was just about anything made by Patrick...

I would say the best thing i have seen is the leather work by (Rich) Black Sheep, its out standing and a very nice chap too...

All of the above :D and the tutorials by British Red, Eric Methven and Wayland, among others :)

I'm also incredibly impressed by the sheer breadth of knowledge; I don't think I've yet asked a question that hasn't had really good informative answers.

cheers,
Toddy
