What fungi did you spot today?

I need to vary the walk a bit, I’m liking the park because it rutting season and the deer are everywhere. Still a lot of these about, the Shaggy Parasols, and @Chris talking of smelling colours, I found a couple of these little Liberty Caps.

Amazing! Not seen any parasols at all around here.

That’s an amazing shot of a deer. Do they just come that close due to the rut?

And an informative mycological photo of the liberty cap there. Interesting how different they can look.

There’s a cull going on too, but generally the herd splits into a stag and his does. They do still herd though.

i got two. a third parasol i know but never seen in early stages. the aniseed funnel cap is a new one for me. does it have any other names? thx for sharing. x

I don't know of any other names. It's a strange one, quite distinctive by sight and smell (aniseed).
Haven't tasted it yet, apparently it's best dried and powered and used to add flavour to dishes. The others were all pretty good though.

Found these oysters hiding in a thicket of gorse today. A new one for me, so looking forward to trying them later.

The second and fourth species (and possibly the third) are wax caps - a really interesting group that usually shows unimproved grassland. I'll look up the species when I have a moment.

Found this Orange Peel Fungus today. Quite a colour.

Found a strange one at work today. A White Saddle. I've not come across these before.

Spotted an interesting one today. It had us stumped at first, but finally identified it as a Piggyback Rosegill (Volvariella surrecta). It grows parasitically on the Clouded Funnel. Quite interesting to see the growth habit and the distinctive volva.





Also found this one, which I'm sure will be instantly recognisable to most.
