What do you mount in your trangia?

I've heard a lot of people saying they mount different stoves in their trangia cook sets so I thought it might be a nice idea to have all the different ideas in one place.

So basically, what stove do you mount in your trangia?

I just use the standard meths burner but I'd like some ideas for another stove to use, maybe gas?

Optimus Nova, Primus Omnifuel, Optimus 111T, Booster clone, all liquid fuel stoves, perform better than gas.

I use a bog standard alpine stove (epigas i think ?) with a mod to the base plate to accept the micro tap on the pipe. Just got to take the folding legs off and the jobs a goodun. Roars like a jet plane when you turn the gas up, lol

You take off the leg unit and screw on a mounting bracket which then clips the burner into the Trangia. The mounting kit is available at www.base-camp.co.uk

I'm using a Optimus Nova+ in the trangia and also uses sometimes the Trangia gas convertor kit.
Trangoa is one of the beste pieces of kit i ever bought.

I don't think you can beat the standard meths burner.
It's safe, there's nothing to break or go wrong, and it doesn't need servicing or cleaning.
I know there are faster burners out there, but who cares, when you're outdoors, what's the rush to boil a kettle, just sit back & relax!
Low tech is best, keep it simple.

I use a specialised state of the art burner.It has no moving parts ,runs on cheap unpressurised fuel and can run in any weather.
It came with the kit.

And the fuel's not that easy to get, certainly not as easy as petrol or gas if you're on hoilday and need to refuel. I don't want to be in France looking for Le B&Q!

The standard Trangia would be the only stove I would take on an extended solo trip (if I did those anymore), but I love playing with stoves anyway.

The point I was making is, whilst on a normal camping holiday, I don't want to detour from my holiday ativities, learn the local words for meths and start finding local hardware shops in Europe - I'd rather syphon it out of the car I'm sitting in, or pick up gas at the garage when I fill up!

So if you were motoring across Europe for two of three weeks with the wife and kids youd take how many gallons of meths on the ferry? Doubt it, anyway, I don't wish to be drawn into another one of this sites boy scout arguments.

This might be useful. In Finland we buy "Sinol". which doesn't smell as bad as meths. A litre bottle seems to last forever, so I can't see anyone needing jerry cans of the stuff strapped to the car roof

AJB, I'm not looking for an argument.Surely if you were taking a trip across Europe you would plan fuel stops ,food stops and suchlike,at the same time you could also plan for a meths stop.If I was taking the wife and kids in a car around Europe I wouldn't contemplate taking a meths stove,it just wouldn't be practical.For a solo trip I would use one,mainly because in the set you get two pots ,a frying pan and a kettle.It's one of very few self contained cookers that contain all you need without pressure pumps or highly volatile fuels and needs no maintenence or spare parts.The petrol pressure stoves are very quick at boiling water ,as are the gas ones and both will give you the same problems as meths when you try to find it ( you will never run out of fuel near a fuel source).

I like meths but last year climbing in spain it Was both expensive and a huge waste of time trying to track it down. Basically all we could get was isopropanol from the pharmacy. It burnt fine over there but was not that cheap and it ment an hour round trip to the nearest bigger town then 2 hours tracking down and checking hardware stores who had never heard of alcohol de quemar. I would always prefer to take my msr dragonfly on these trips as there are a few of us and would mean we would only need one stove and make gormet cooking easier but stupid airline rules / blatant theift of property by baggage checkers makes this impossible.

I am planning a trip to France and the Canary islands, I am going to get the Evernew solo cookset cooking bundle so that I can use wood in case I have problems getting meths.

In France I buy "alcool à brûler" (literally "alcohol to burn").

It's reasonably priced in any supermarket at about 1 Euro 60c per litre, it's clean, and it smells a lot nicer than the UK 'meths'. It's available usually in one litre and often in five litre containers. Most of the time I have a couple of gallons in the shed.
