I like the idea of a tank big enough to soak willow....mind it'll stink though. I bought a length of drainpipe and capped it, it works for a small amount, but not if I'm doing something big.

You are so right about the midge country thing though. I live in hopes that we never see an influx of mozzies, though they are here, just not in huge numbers....yet :sigh:
I think we'd really be in trouble if they did come in numbers because there is so much standing water around us. From the road drains to puddles, from wee ponds to burns, even plant pot saucers, let alone the boggy and marshy bits.

I am fitting a drain valve to the tank bung hole, and it will sit where I can just open the valve to empty it..... so it can easily be emptied and refilled every day or two, which is apparently the best way to avoid the stink. Also helps keeps the water clean for plant watering (dip tanks are so much easier to use than a water butt tap), not like we're short of water around here.....

I will prob also get some blocks to put it on, better working level. My back will thank me when I am watering the veggies!

Can’t you attach some ooze tube ands save yourself the watering cans?

Edited to add:
Apparently Ooze Tube is a trade name for something different. There is a semi porous tube that you can thread through your veg and droplets of water ooze out through the material.
I’ll try and find a name.

I had a soaker hose running behind some plants that were in full sun at our house in NJ. Not permanently connected to anything, but I could hook it up to a hose to a tap and give those plants a good, slow drink on days when they were wilting
