Set out with the intention of buying a wood carving axe and failed miserably, can't make my mind up as to which one I would like so will leave it until I've managed to see them in the flesh and hold them and then make my decision.

I'm the same with the lady friends

I didn't buy it but had it given to me. I want to take it home and put it in my rather small garden. I just have to somehow persuade my girlfriend.

Any ideas on 1. What paint to paint it with? and 2. What other uses apart from simply providing warmth on a cold night can I use it for? Not sure how I could utilise it for boiling some water, or cooking some food

High temperature stove or engine block paint will do the trick.

Matt black exhaust paint works just fine - be sure to give it a good burn-off before sitting around it.

I'd actually use stove blacking for it, a bit more effort than a rattle can of paint but the finish and the longevity will be much better. Apply blacking, polish up, light fire to cure and voila, Bob's your Dad's brother :D

Mmm... hate to disagree, but stove black doesn't work very well on shiny bare metal at all in my experience; it just wipes off. It works fine re-applied to the rougher surface of cast metal stoves. I suppose it will depend on what the metal surface is like. Most modern wood burning stoves are now finished with high-temp mat paint (actually called stove paint). Traditionally, they may have been oil quenched then graphite polished.

I would definitely use Stove Bright or Rust-Oleum High Heat, or just exhaust black. It is possible to do an oil quenching finish but it would be hard work.

New Millbank filter from chelmerbushcraft on eBay. Inexpensive and great finish, good chap to deal with.

Esbit burner with pot for alcohol/meths from AliExpress. I’d use hime made burner for meths though. Bit smaller that a fire dragon folding stove but you can’t fit the blocks in it.

It came covered in plastic wrap that was a pain to peel off though.

Plus a “survival” bandana.

I've got the same Millbank bag, very good quality

I relented as my old walking boots are heavy and I've had surgery on my foot, I bought
Berghaus mens hillwalker 2 gtx walking boot
WARRANTY LIFETIME manufacturers defects and
"Our gear repair service is free. We'll ask you pick up the cost of sending your gear into us but the fix-up is on us."

So I feel less upset on, cost and more confident over regatta etc hiking boots I've destroyed in the past.

I bought a second hand replacement for my old laptop (that I bought second hand for my son but he found it to big and heavy). The old one is too slow for some software, the screen resolution isn't high enough for other software to run, and it's true that it's big and heavy.

So I've got a 2019 dell latitude 7290 on the way from a company that buys businesses' retired computers and reconditions them. Much higher resolution in a small, light chassis. And a 16 MB RAM upgrade and a 2 TB NVM upgrade.

That should do me for the next five years.

I bought a £5.99 blue spot 1.5lb hand axe it's razor sharp (first time I've ever cut my finger removing cover on an axe).
Great for kindling as right weight and narrow axe head

Product Description:-
"680g (1.5lb) Fibreglass Hand Axe features a contoured handle for a more secure grip. The fibreglass shaft reduces fatigue and increases shock absorption during prolonged use. The axe is light enough for single-handed use. The head is manufactured from hardened steel which has been ground and powder coated to protect from rust.
