What did you buy today?

  • Hey Guest, Early bird pricing on the Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August) available until March 31st, we'd love you to come. PLEASE CLICK HERE to early bird price and get more information.
Here I was, thinking that I'd managed to get through all of Friday and Saturday without buying a single thing.
Then I remembered that I had, in fact, bought three things.
My travel pass for the month of March.
Two copies of Knife Repair and Restoration.
I stumbled upon this book an a Norwegian site, then looked for a second hand copy on Abe Books. €35 to €96! Plus €35 in shipping!
I bought new, including extortionate DHL shipping charges, it came to about €29.

Decided on some retail therapy; most necessary when clearing out.

A black parasol. (Horn handle; needful for my hornware collection)
a brass candlestick. (the standard `Wee Willie Winkie` type)
one of those useful screw top aluminium pots

A couple more books to read. Aspley Cherry-Garrard's accounts of Robert Falcon Scott's Terra Nova expedition, and a really nice coffee table book filled with Herbert Ponting's photos of the expedition.

A JL220 sewing machine new from Gumtree.

I borrowed one from the library to mod my kit before Finland, and now the GF has asked me to make some alterations to one of her bags, so I thought that was enough justification to get my own.

Alas, never read it.

And the journey was futile in the end...as penguins are not the primitive bird they assumed.

In fact, we now know they are quite advanced.

Why:

I’m out with the tipi soon.
I’ll let you know whether it works.

It’ll make a pot strainer if it doesn’t make a fire top.

I don’t have any sort of fire inside the tipi since an unfortunate kipper conflagration improved my ventilation about eight years ago.

I keep warm using layers whether It clothes or sleeping bags.

I bought it a few days ago but it arrived today, a Paramo Enduro windproof coat. I'm really impressed with the quality. I did go and have a look at the Bentu in Go Outdoors 2 weeks ago with intentions to buy but I walked away a little disappointed and without the coat. The Enduro is much nicer.

Pine tar soap, as mentioned a few posts back is now back in stock, recieved mine today, and it smells more like a pine forest, rather than a bonfire! ( like the last, and very expensive bar I purchased. )
