Ventile versus unlined waxed cotton

Having tried Ventile (double layer Survival Aids and single layer gucci thing) I'm now back to using an unlined oilskin. It's much more robust than the Ventile jackets but a little less comfortable.
Does anyone else prefer oilskins over Ventile?

yep... would sooner replace my drizabone then buy a ventile.

'Waterproofness' is one, brambles, sparks etc... is another one where I think the oilskin wins...

There are different grades of ventile. Mine is as tough as my barbour waxed jacket. Brambles and sparks are not an issue.

The ventile is much more windproof than the barbour and is infinitely more breathable.

Without layers it's not as warm as the wax jacket but that's because the barbour has a padded lining.

The ventile rolls up to a compact size when it's not required, there's no way the barbour would.

Having said all that, I love them both equally. The barbour looks better for everyday wear about town and is probably more waterproof if it's absolutely chucking it down.

But if I'm hitting the trail for any length of time, it's the ventile everytime.

I have to agree with Prawnster, my Barbour is alot heavier than my Ventile and alot more uncomfortable!
For me it would be the Ventile everytime for Bushcraft.

Ventile for most of the time, particularly when on the move as it breathes so much better, oilskin for when its tipping down.

I'll let you know when I can afford Ventile! Until then it's Goretex I'm afraid...
