Oiling and honing/stropping shiny things.....making feathersticks, oiling/polishing leatherwork, planning future craft projects, making cordage/thonging, making small projects such as billies from tins and trivets from hinges, whittling "ethnic" heads to see if a knife is sharp (most end up as firewood..) Scouring New Posts for inspiration...
All these fill the odd moment indoors...strolling down my local woods to harvest blackberries/hazels/sloes etc in season (or just to watch and listen) does for the outdoors.
Theres one busy enterprising man :You_Rock_
I take the lads for walks eg to the various lakes and wood's round here, We watch the carp when its warm and sunny. I'm teaching the youngest different trees he knows oak ("coak") and birch ("urch") so far, He comes in the shop with me, I already teach him the names of tools, its good for his speech development if nothing else "spindle" "sharp" "hammer", he gets certain tools for me, one nail, two nail's please....I make spindles, legs, seat's, split firewood logs/kinderling, we put it in sack's sometimes. He already knows how to assemble the spindles into the seat socket's and then find a small mell to set them home. What else? Refurb tools, set & sharpen saws, make new handles, draw out rod's for some joinery project's. On a night I might read various books on history, craft's, building technology etc, look in on here
