  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
about in the uk never being far from help, i was talking to a moution leader he sed he had a party of 3 with him and it started snowing hard and soon he sed it was a complet white out. he had a storm shelter with them so just hunkered down. he sed all he did was tell the people with him what was going on why they were stoping(cliffs near them and didnt wont to walk over them) and just made some tea and waited for the storm to pass. when the storm passed he could see the center he stared from. he sed he was only half a mile or less away.

Pierre,
There is a lot of good info on PLB (personal locator beacons), ELT (emergency locator transmitter) EPIRB (emergency position indicator radio beacon) and SART (search and rescue transponder) on Doug Ritters site. www.equipped.org.
He gives good reviews on a lot of beacons and how the SARSAT system works. 406mhz is the way ahead for the future. PLB's can be expensive but potentially a live saving bit of kit.

Hope this helps
