Strange Food ideas.

Cheese and jam sarnies/toast.... Brie and sliced grapes on a warm baguette. Tempura prawns with pineapple hot sauce (best thing ever). Bacon lettuce and grilled watermelon sarnie with honey Siracha sauce. Smoked bacon pasta with red onion... Smoked chorizo and beans on toast...Chicken liver curry...

As for culinary exploration, what I'd call an 'elevated cupboard staple' aka what I might throw together when I haven't been to the shops and/or can't be bothered to cook fresh, is egg and chips with the addition of fermented soybeans in chilli oil. You can pick it up at the supermarket and there isn't much it can't improve.

Well, my favourite snack sandwich is mature cheddar and blackcurrant jam (homemade jam, of course).
Our lass thinks i'm weird for cheese and jam sarnies... and just in general. But she will eat rice or pasta sarnies...Which i think is weird, while eating a chip butty, which makes me the same way weird too, but with a traditional dish defence. She buys thin slices of Edam cheese... so she can have an Eda0 and salad cream sarnie.... but then puts the salad cream on the bread, and the edam on a plate, and eats them separately. I can't get my head around that level of tomfoolery.

I like a bag of cheese and onion crisps crushed up, and then the crumbs poured inside a roll that's been slathered with salad cream.

I also think cake ought to come with cheese.

I like the ginger syrup from the stem ginger jar drizzled over my carrots or avocados.

.....and I really, really like the sea salt Itsu seaweed sheets :D
 
Fresh strawberries with a good grind of black pepper - but only when in season. Yum.

In fact there isn’t much that can’t be improved with fresh ground black pepper, IMO.

I once totally accidentally put together kipper and black treacle sandwiches. After the shock of the first bite they were OK,

The legalised vampire that I visit several times a year is Mexican. When I suggested that mangos formed part of my blood thinning regime, she rubbed her tum and said “With chilli?” The look on her face said that she enjoyed them. It’s a step that I have yet to take.
There's a spice powder mix in Mexico called Tajín; strictly speaking, that's a trademarked name, but there are dozens of knock-off brands.
It's a mixture of freeze dried lemon or lime juice, salt, chilli and maybe cumin.

It's great on watermelon, melon, guava, papaya, mango, but especially watermelon.

But it has a tendency to suck moisture from the air and form clumps in the jar; it's a good idea to tip some into a mortar and pestle and mash it up a bit before sprinkling it on fruit.

One that I have difficulty getting people on board with, and I've mentioned it here before, is curry porridge. Fry off an onion, bit of garlic, ginger, chillies or whatever you fancy add a masala and cook the rawness off it, then hoof in your oats and water and cook as you would for 'normal' porridge. If you think about it, it's not massively different from a lentil dal.

Even before you mentioned that - I've been thinking about making Kedgeroddige- Kedgeree's with an oatmeal base -

So Porridge , Curry powder , plump juicy raisins , peas Sliced Boiled eggs and fish of some sort - I may just do it with cheap and nasty fish fingers because every freezer has a box of a beige breadcrumb fish sticks in it.
