great bit of journalism

Ray Mears' World of Survival premiered on British screens in 1997 and taught viewers a new survival skill in each episode, including how to rub sticks together to make fire to keep warm in the Arctic.

It's trash journalism. There was another interview where he said he wasn't bothered about the comparison although what they have quoted him on is correct.

They have blown things out of proportion. Let's face it, it COULD be dangerous to go jumping off cliffs into rivers if you don't know how deep they are.

I have great respect for BOTH these people, but they will always have two very different approaches to their craft.

Maybe they should pop them into "I'm a celebrity" this time around...Just don't let them kill and eat a rat :lmao:

It looks to me that they've taken Ray's recent interview in the Guardian, discarded everything that they couldn't misconstrue and they slapped a bunch of stuff about Bear in to make it look like there's still life in the old nag. It's just the same old Oasis/Blur, Madonna/Cyndi Lauper thing.

That said, precisely what variety of berk buys an unspoiled nesting site and bolts a waterslide to it? That act has cemented my view of Grylls as a man who really has no grasp of living with nature at all - which would explain why his shows all pit him against nature in an adversarial way.

Trouble is of course the Grauniad is really no better than the "Hate Mail" - its just an organ for regurgitating failed socialist dogma much as the Mail tries to pretend all immigrants both "take our jobs" and "claim social security" at the same time. Two sides of the same coin really.
