No Back Packs In the Range...

You feel discriminated against, try being a motorcyclist, plenty signs about saying "no leathers", "no crash helmets to be worn", "no bikers" etc

Morrisons petrol stations are one of the worst they have a policy to make you remove your helmet, sometimes before fuelling (even when using pay at pump), sometimes just when paying at the counter (including using the night hatch)......

No headgear of ANY kind (not helmets, hats, caps, hoods, etc.) or sunglasses allowed in banks or casinos. I expect the petrol stations are banning them for the same reason (to allow security cameras to get a full face shot and for the clerk to verify you are the same person pictured on your ID)

......A few of the lads have pushed it further & when they continue to refuse payment they've stated "This conversation is being recorded and this is my final offer to pay are you refusing payment? if you refuse I will leave, I think one even did......

Does this cause the station a problem? Don't they make you prepay before pumping Petrol?

Its quite common in parts of Spain to stop you taking bags in with you. Its an inconvinience but not the end of the world, just don't use the shop if its an issue for you. Bottom line is they can say yes or no to whom they serve.

i take my pack everywhere with me. when i go shopping, i use my pack instead of environmentally damaging plastic bags. ironically i bought it from the range when i worked there, i never heard of this rule when i was there and so would assume its specific to your local store. more than likely as a crime prevention method. i often carry a shoulder bag around the range which acts as a nappy/change bag. i wonder if they would stop me carrying that, especially as i almost always end up taking the sprog into their baby change facilities.

There are certain religions practiced within the UK of which the covering of ones head and or face are a part of and because it is a religious garment it appears to be outside of the law under grounds of discrimination. A shopping centre may put up a sign saying "no hoodies" but could not discriminate against a religious item of clothing.

I dont belive we use photo ID over here quite as much as in the USA but it may come.

Re the pre pay problem, only the commercial diesel pump at my local garage is pre-pay as it's partly out of sight of the kiosk. Morrisons sometimes just won't turn the pump on at all until you remove your helmet, they shout over the tannoy but when wearing ear plugs you can't hear very well & you end up stood like a numpty with a pump in your hand

My local garage has a couple of bikers working there and they appreciate the hassle of helmet, gloves, balaclava, ear plugs, neck snood, & cables for intercom/music/phone & prefer not to enforce any rules.

Fair enough. TBH most of that wasn't as common here a couple of decades ago (rising crime rate and all that) I also understand the selective enforcement (easpecially if the clerks recognize the customer anyway.

As for the religious arguement, it's a touchy subject over here. But generally businesses have the right to refuse service IF! If they have "reasonable" cause or reason. And generally security concerns have been upheld. Even to the point of states refusing to issue drivers' licenses to anyone refusing to remove coverings for the photograph.

I like to sometimes challenge a shop when I am asked to show the inside of my bag. I ask the shop person at the door when I am exiting if they have any reasonable cause to suspect me of shop lifting as I feel that is only the reason to want to look in your bag. If they say no then I start to walk away without showing the contents of my bag. The look on there face is priceless as they are more worried about the further conversation if they said yes to the first question as then I would like them to explain to me what were the criminal indicators that warranted them to stop and challenge me in the first place.
The wife hates it when I do that but it is funny as.

Thinking about this, I was wondering about going into the Range again this time with my 120 ltr Bergan on full of gear, then letting them ask me to remove it, and leaving it behind the counter to look after, when full it weighs a fair bit... can you see where I am going as well as being large, and not much room behind the counter......add a roll mat on top... disappear in the coffee shop for about 2 hrs, read a book.....

On my return then ask for it back, then proceed to unpack, when they ask what I am doing tell them I am checking its contents........As I dont trust their employees, just like they dont trust me......

NA its that they think I would of been shop lifting, the coffee shop looks over the counters It would be fun seeing the problems they have moving a V large Rucksack, thats ways in line with the size and weight of a small Elephant...
