Yeah thanks for the advice, desperate to get out and try some of my kit out now so will keep an eye out for a meet soon. otherwise will wait for some better weather and have a bash myself or with my lad.

Where abouts in Stockport then ?
I'm at the bottom of Edgeley not far from Morrisons.

I don't really go up edgeley much, Im Bredbury way. I used to visit the orthodontist in edgeley though, the whole place fills me with dread!

Cheers for the offers of kit loan when I was there on friday night. It very nearly got me to stay over. I think it was the offer of as much rat pack food as i could trough that nearly did it for me.

I had a great time on friday night and with the rush on sat morning i was glad i didnt stay over in the end.

Good to see you guys again just wish i could have stayed.

Great pictures of the Swedish Fire Gary. Had another on today whilst on site. Managed to get it down to a tee and made small ones to last half an hour for lunch time.

Decided i need to learn how to use a sewing machine. Inspired by everyone who makes there own clothes.

Any ideas what is a good project to practice on first?

I was really impressed to see how many people had started making their own kit for this meet too.

Things seem to be moving away from the "must have" brands towards gear that does the job but doesn't cost the earth.

I've made a bit of stuff in the past for the living history work and a Swannie type shirt is not much different than a simple tunic to make.

The windproof shirt I was wearing was made to the same pattern from canvas and I found it very effective.

Yep, Sorry Gary I will be pinching that one off you (the idea that is).

I am on the look out for some suitable material at the moment, but obviously I dont want to pay too much for it;) . Got your rabbits in your pockets yet Gary ? ;)

I have finished the leather belt pouch that I should have done whilst I was there, looks OK, just need to make a nice fastener for it, antler I think.

I am going to make myself another kuska and a bowl too and have a go at the decoration you have done (sorry forgot what you called it). I really like the rune effect, I will dig out my copy of "L o t R" and have a look at the runes in there, a few years back I knew them all of pat and could read and write it fluently (sad I know):p

I still can't convince myself to do remove the std handle on my billy though:rolleyes:

If anyone (Womble) wants any more info on the poncho design just let me know and I will be happy to help. I was extremely impressed with how warm it was, Friday night it was all I used as covering. Just shows how good wool is. So you wont have to wimp out Womble:p

Rob, if you want any pointers on making your own clothes just give me a shout, sewing machine lessons included. I know we said we should meet up after so let me know. If you are in Jacks wood again give me a bell and you can pop round for a brew. PM me if you want my number or to meet up. OH! Nice benches by the way, went round yesterday with the dog, I trust that is your handy work cut into the fallen tree "HEY".

Also a MEGGA big thanks to Andywink and Mentalnurse. Cheers guys you have both been stalwarts, greatly appreciated. Home brew for you guys next time for sure.

Lurch, I have not forgotten, I will PM you just to confirm address etc. and thanks again for your help on the deal.;)

Firebreather, glad you enjoyed your short stay, I think the rat packs made all the difference eh?:D

Lindsey, any drawings yet, I know you had some good pictures to work off? Cant wait to see them.

Mine are lined with "beaver" lamb. Which is a wool fleece treated to feel like beaver skin.

LOL, yes, I really did like that design. I've not had time to get me a blanket to mess with yet though.

Would love some pointers on the sewing machine, i actually have on (well, the mrs does) but i wouldn't even know how to switch it on!

I think i'll aim for straight lines and then i may get to Andywinks standards in a few years.

The seats in Jacks wood was the students playing around. Did you find the secret bird hotels in the stumps. Secret so the chavs don't find and destroy them.

Won't be back there for a while as the dangerous stuff is done and the wood has TPO on it so we don't like to do anything in there really, just keeping the residence off our backs doing the big dead stuff.

I would be up for a brew meet some time though, wouldn't mind a butchers round you wood.

i have a great site up at Glasson Dock, i mentioned to andywink also so we will have to arrange a low key weekend sometime. The owner is a very nice chap that i manage it for and he wants a semi permanant natural structure putting in for the kids to camp in so thats the next project in there. I'm thinking a yurt.

Sorry for the delay in replying, been on late shifts again.

Rob, No did not spot the bird hotels, which is good in a way, if I did not then the prats wont either. I will look closer next time. I did see some cuts that I thought were for insect houses etc.

Been in my woods today testing out a new hammock system, I cant say too much as it is not yet available in this country and I am doing the first review for them:tapedshut . I will let you know more when I can, But yes, give me a shout and we can have a bimble through.
Met up with Tammy's fella today (can never remember his name) whilst in there he was after a few rabbits but no luck.

I will PM you my email address so you can contact me if you wish.

I know what you meen about AndyWinks sewing.:notworthy I am now the proud owner of one of his tops. Bl@@dy awesome.

Gary, glad to hear you have toasty mits now, you cant beat warm beaver fur to keep your hands warm eh;)

Lindsey, Cant wait to see the picture.

I have just popped in to Middlewood, on the way back from the Trafford Centre (my own personal hell!) and said hello to the site warden and crew.

I broached the subject of a summer meet there and got a resounding "No". Between April & September it is for Scout use only, so I will try to organise another to coincide with my winter half term.

See you all there....

Simon
