Tried making a leather tankard. Hold 3/4 of a pint..... Learnt a few lessons.

1. Sew handle on before sewing on the bottom.
2. Make a bigger tankard next time.... One I can get my hand into
3. Invest in some curved needles

Anyway here are some pics

Just waiting for it to dry so I can trim bottom and then wax.

Great work Orric, and strangely I'm drinking out of my leather tankard as I type. Just water I'm afraid, no booze. That handle looks like it would've been hard work.

Cheers mate. Most drinks can be improved by drinking from a tankard I find lol.

Actually the handle wasn't to much of a chore. The hardest part was the bottom as I stitched it on the had to remove it to get handle on as the tankard is to narrow to get my manly hands in.

A nice bit of work there. Yes, indeed, you do need to sew the handle on before the base.

You can make your own curved needles. Take a straight needle (I use the ones that have already got a bit bent through use), heat it over a candle flame, or the gas cooker, and bend. As long as it doesn't get too hot, it doesn't lose the temper, and it's a lot cheaper than buying curved needles.
