  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Knew it :sigh:
I posted on the other snow thread that everytime I try to organise a meet up at Wiston, it snows

The motorway will be fine, but the roads off from that to Wiston might be a wee touch hairy.
MT606 ? if you go up, will you let us know how the access roads look ?

atb,
M

good luck mt606 get us some picks if you can.

i was in the hills on the solway coast today in the snow. i was marking new quad trails on forestry planting sites. i couldnt tell the hard ground from the soft so i had a few sinky moments lol. i will be in that area again on monday but higher up lets hope for more snow.

Went up Tinto, access track to the car park was ok, a bit snowy/icy, busy traffic on the hill, snowing from just under half way up.....feckin cold on the top as was windy with it. I may go again if it clears up in the week if its still white to hopefully get a good view this time.

Hi folks. Would be great to get out and join you, blow a few cobwebs away. Feb suits me fine too. Always fancied a go at tipis. G

Nice one, sounds great as we've only had a single drift of snow which melted as fast as it came :(

Hello George :D long time no see. Happy New Year to you :grouphug:

I think there's enough folk interested in this for me to happily contact Wiston on Monday and book the tipi site then.
Russ mentioned that he and Lorna would like to know too, and come if they can manage.

I still have some of the pre-cuts that Jason made for the folks who wanted to carve their netting needles, so I'll bring them along too as well as the fomes. I have spare line too, so that can get used up as well.

Any preferences for early or late in February ?

I was just about to ask if people were still doing the walk.....tis still covered in snow btw......

what time are people intending on getting there and are you going to the northern car park to start?

m

was planing on gettin there about 10. will be using the northern route. snow will be great dont think it will put me off but if there is to much we could always head back down.

That looks familiar :D

Was it a good clean walk up ? it's been a flat calm here today even with the snow. Tinto on a calm day is a really good walk.
Did the snow show up the fort ?

Thanks for sharing the photos :D

It's the local 'hill'. Folks go up it just to clear the cobwebs and to get a good walk. Lot of tradition about climbing it just after the New Year too.

I reckon it's been going on for thousands of years. The top of the hill is the biggest bronze age cairn in Europe. I think every bairn in the county takes a stone up there at some point or other. I know I've added dozens, so did my sons, and my brothers.
I suspect that's been going on for a while :D

I placed my first stone on the cairn when I was about 4 after being carried most of the way on my grandies back
