a dry meet would be great, i dont have much time for hangovers any more lol. would be great of you Toddy if you would organise camping. i dont mind about dates if that weekend is not possible.

if folk still want to go up tinto just for a walkabout i would prefer the 16th, i like to try and keep sundays free for my family.

later dudes.

I think the date is so close now that it might be best to look on it as two things then. Probably best if you just go ahead with your walk plans Beezer.

I'll contact Wiston tomorrow and see about a quick recce and then get back to folks asap. We're looking for a Friday evening into Saturday, and maybe Saturday again into Sunday for some folks if they want/the weather's okay, but the intent is just an over nighter.

That sounds like a plan, thanks for taking charge with this otherwise we would never get organised :)

nice one mate, definitely interested in having a look!

So what are folk thinking. We could do a day trip on the 16th, and that puts less stress on Toddy so she can organise a wee meet that's a bit further along the timeline? or would you rather wait until the meet and combine it all into one. As I said before I'll go with the flow. Happy to do both, or combine it all into the meet-up :)

I've had a reply from Wiston :)

Wendy has written me a lovely note and included this information.

"Guide prices are attached, peak and off peak.

Camping costs per night @ £4.50pp (off peak) & £6pp (peak from 21st March).

Campervan / Caravan @ £10 per van per night, plus £2pp per additional person per night.

Each cabin accommodates up to 6 in two rooms (a single and a bunk bed in each) and cost £50 off peak per night and £68 peak per night at weekends. We have availability 12 - 14th Feb, 26 - 28th Feb in the cabins and some weekends in March. We generally sell the cabins per cabin. Occasionally we part sell rooms in the cabins or bed spaces, if it's last minute and it's clear we're not going to book them to a larger group. A week or two before you come. In this case the cabin bed space would be £12pp per night.

We don't generally charge for use of the fire sites apart from a £20 per weekend fee for a load of Firewood. April onwards we have parachutes above the fire sites. They don't generally go up before then because of March winds but you are welcome to rig your own.

Camping can take place in 3 places:
1) On the main camp field
2) On the back campsite (behind cabins...fire pit included)
3) On the Tipi Site

To camp on the Tipi Site, costs £10pp per night, with a minimum of 6 campers. This entitles you to exclusive use of the Tipi area, camping in this area, access to the Tipis for social space / to sleep (they are not entirely watertight), composting loos, pizza oven (covered), fire wood and cooking utensils if required.

At this time of year the campsite top toilets are drained and shut down (to prevent freezing and burst pipes) but you can access the Tipi toilets and the back loos / showers in the Main Lodge. "

The Tipi site costs more per night per person, but it's a lovely area in the middle of the wood, and with a willow hedge around it.

I admit I think that it would probably be the best option, but am happy to go with the consensus.

The cabins are excellent for those who might not be up for camping at the coldest bit of the year though. Could do both if it suits folks ? Again, happy to go with the flow, or share the costs.

atb,
Mary

From what I recall the tipis are set up with a fire pit in the middle of the area they're in. The hedged off area I mean. Wiston won't have a chute over the fire, but mine could be put up (if someone's up for firing a line over the most suitable branch). The lines I have and the guys on the chute are sound so it works fine that way.

I used to just tie it to a weight of some kind and throw hard, but right now my shoulder joints aren't up to that.

It needs six of us then to commit to going so that I can book the tipi site.

Dates ? do we want early February or nearer the end ? What would suit folks best ?

Thank you :D it's appreciated :D

I'd like to have a provisional booking date by the start of next week, so that give us tomorrow and the weekend to get folks to say yes/ if they can manage at the time/ or no. So long as we have six pretty certains I'll go ahead. If we don't there's no reason the meet up can't go ahead, just that Wiston might prefer that we don't have exclusive use of the tipi site.
