As above riggers are great, also good for thorns, nettles etc. Reasonably compact. I have welders Gauntlets and they are the absolute dogs for heat protection, use them lots when burning stuff in incinerator

I got a pair of double layer suede gloves from the local garden centre, only 'cause Andybysea burnt a hole through my last ones :)

Olive too :D

Got my welders gloves from Screwfix. Cheap and well tough, in fact been outside all winter and no damage...

I got some thin yellow gloves, I think have either Nomex and/or Kelvar woven in them, which are pretty good at holding hot things. Not sure of the ratings on them though and you still have to put things down as they will heat up a little after a while.

But the welding gloves are probably your best bet like the others have said. :)
