Since many of us may be reconsidering our EDC blade in the current climate, how about some suggestions for a blade which fits the UK law as it stands.
i.e. blade less than 3" and non-locking folder

I'd like to exclude the Spydie UKPK for being much to aggressive/tactical looking though. It's a great knife but screams tactical.
Obviously a lot of people love SAKs, but I'm not one of them - too bulky in most instances.

So, suggestions?

Opinel 5 has a 2 3/8" blade and no locking ring.
I used to have a SAK that just had one blade, that was pretty good.

I like my Victorinox Farmer, but as you say, slightly bulky.

America's best selling pocket knife was allegedly the Schrade Old Timer. As the name suggests, it is traditional looking. Schrade went bust and current 'Schrades' are made in China (though apparantly still quite good.) US made ones are plentiful on ebay new or used. Might be a bit small.

My father in law has a Loewen similar to these http://www.baconsdozen.co.uk/knives.htm
Good quality, cuts well, and looks, well, 'grandfatherly'.

Well my EDC has been the Remington Medium Stockman I got from Rapidboy in November. Its just right for me and I've nearly always got it about my person.

I used to love my SAK but I seldom use anything but the blade anyway.

Hi,
I have experimented with all sorts of UK legal pocket knives and have come down to this:
If I carry my Swisstool X (strictly illegal of course, but bear with me) then I have either a Schrade twin bladed jack knife or a Russell twin blade Barlow.
If I am not carrying the Swisstool then it has to be my Victorinox Handyman.

If you must be a deviant and not like the SAK,then I can only suggest one of the stockman variants.

A choice of three blades, one of which is a wharncliffe, should fit most edc requirements.

PS:Not all SAKs are bulky. :p

EDIT: A stockman like Scruff's.

How about the new Nokia penknife?

edit - sorry, I can't put the link to the image up. BCUK keeps cutting the url out. Never mind. It was only slightly funny.

My EDC at the moment is a Victorinox....heck, I don't know what the model is called but my Father gave it to me when I was just a wee lad. It's old and has but one blade and a combi tool. It's seen a lot of use over the years, so much that I've had the cellidor handles replaced twice. I've given it a convex edge bevel and it goes with me just about everytime I leave the house.

When I was a little younger and more naiive than I am today I used two Schrade Old Timers. I still have both of them, but they're next to useless as they were the blades that I tought myself how to properly freehand sharpen on. It was only a little while ago that I heard of Schrade going out of business and being bought out with their new products made in China. I was also told that the Chinese knives are nothing in comparison with the original American ones. But to be totally honest, I was never truly satisfied with the QC of them anyway. My Victorinox knives are (were) much better assembled with less faults than the Schrades. I wouldn't give up my SAKs for all the tea in China!
