This isnt totally relevant but a friend of mine got mugged once: The mugger had a knife and demanded money, my friend said "sorry mate ,I dont have any money......but I've got a banana!" He then pulled a banana from his inside jacket pocket and offered it to the mugger, who ran away in fear from being confonted by a complete nutter!
My friend was very lucky that things turned out how they did, but I think thats more of a one off experiance and he wont be so lucky next time.
The only reason muggers carry knives is to scare people, anybody that carries for self defence scares me more.
