Not my invention but I don't think its ever been commercially made - its something like sloe gin or elderflower champagne - a home made thing. I think I put a tutorial up about it a while back. The Americans brew something similar (probably the recipe went over with the miners from Cornwall and Devon) - called "Apple Pie" - although theirs is made with moonshine (whiskey) apple juice and cider (bear in mind cider in he US is actually apple juice - only "hard cider" is alcoholic). I'm fairly certain the drink evolved as a way of smoothing out illegally made hooch into something nice to drink.
