and decomposing mouse in the aluminium Kelly Kettle (inside the water compartment)... and freaked out. It did smell pretty strong.
Assuming you've removed the bulk of the corpse, wash out with detergent, then put a load of small, sharp, pebbles in, wash again shaking and stirring the pebbles around (little bits of fur etc. get stuck to the inside), repeat. Now add bleach (diluted) and leave for an hour or more, then thoroughly wash and rinse again, then boil several lots of water through it.
It will now be as clean as it left the factory - as to whether your wife will ever drink from it again is another matter

Yes, it needs mechanical friction on the inside... I might also do a round of peroxide at the end with lots of rinsing.

Agree. Boil, scrape by swirling with grit & water then boil two plain water fills and it will be fine.
Disinfect if you wish but for no more than 30 mins in aluminium - but then you’ll probably need to boil a bit more than two fills. Do a test run using your preferred drink - tea, coffee, chocolate, whatever you know well. Keep boiling and emptying till it tastes ok.
I once got meths in mine and it took a surprisingly long time to shift the last trace of an unpleasant taste. I suspect that the last two boils the taste was psychological but that doesn’t mean you can’t taste it!!!!!

While all of the above seems excellent advice, biologically sound, practical, covers all the bases etc. etc. etc.; If it happened to mine, one of the first "Boys Toys" I got when I got back into camping years ago. Something which I hold close to my heart ....... Dust BIN, Hammer, Angle grinder, Skip, Over the next doors fence, Put on Ebay, are just some of the things going through my mind. BL**DY TEA is not one of them
I’m not someone who tastes mice. I must say I like @Tony idea best, another handful of mice for depth of flavour and a splash of dry sherry or vermouth.
The grit idea makes the most sense, the only thing I clean the kitchen sink and taps with is Cif because it’s abrasive.
You have me beat on this one. I've found many dead mice in and around my kit (in my food, my bed, clothes, etc), but so far none in my kettle! 
I have the image of happy mice trotting around, minding their business, until the tragic day they sample some of Dave's food, or wander across his clothing or bedding...and just keel over dead! Man, what do you treat your kit with that it kills mice on contact?!?You have me beat on this one.
